  • SENIOR HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGER

    Drake Hotel Properties (The Drake) is an evolving lifestyle brand focused on a growing stable of hotels, food and drink concepts, catering, cultural events and retail stores. We are creating our own version of neighbourhood focused retreats where travelers, culture seekers and locals all intersect to enjoy the thoughtful contradictions of contemporary and timeless.

    We are looking for Senior Manager of Human Resources, to lead a highly-engaged team and oversee the daily responsibilities + operational activities of the HR department, across all DHP Properties, inclusive of the Drake General Stores. The ideal candidate will be a creative, collaborative, results-oriented leader who is particularly adept at balancing multiple priorities and issues. This role requires someone to be dedicated to developing a strong, diverse, and collaborative organization, have a strong work ethic, a passion for managing the details within a growing business and willing to contribute where necessary.

    Reporting to the Executive Director, Corporate Services, you will be responsible for creating enhancements through planning, implementing, and evaluating employee relations and human resources policies, programs, and practices. In addition to managing the Human Resource department, this individual acts as a senior HR generalist on a wide range of HR activities including, but not limited to employee relations, performance management, compensation, coaching and development.

    Responsibilities:
    • Manages the Human Resources Department, team deliverables and performance, recommends goals and develops and implements strategies to meet them.
    • Role model’s key behaviours demonstrating the Company’s values and encourage a strong performance-focused culture within his/her team
    • Maintain best in class management and employee guidelines by preparing, updating, and recommending human resource policies.
    • Manage and administer all areas of Performance Management process for salaried and hourly staff; reviews, training, goal setting, development planning, coaching + leadership counsel to managers.
    • In collaboration with the Recruiting + Employee Engagement Manager, create + manage the HR calendar
    • Set and manage HR Budget and compensation planning.
    • Take an active role in the recruiting and interview process for managerial positions.
    • Be the owner and ambassador of Leadership Training; high-potential program, leadership workshops, internal leadership training.
    • Oversee the areas of HR Operations including workforce + succession planning, candidate pipeline development and internal development programs.
    • Provide coaching and resources to employees and managers with respect to career development, compensation, staffing initiatives, performance management and employee relations.
    • Build HR strategies supporting the human resource needs, identifying the most effective organizational structure, individual’s capability needs and resource needs, employee retention and engagement.
    • Assist with HR communication strategies including employment branding, internal communications, new policy development, etc.
    • Drives and executes employer of choice action plans; Employer Awards, internal + external campaigns, etc.
    • With the Payroll + Benefits Analyst, review program usage + HR metrics, develop programs, facilitate broker negotiations.
    • Guide and advise leaders in corrective action, development plans, employee terminations, etc.
    • Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing all human resource regulatory requirements.

    Knowledge/Skills:
    • Experience in all areas of the Human Resources including recruiting, new hire processing, benefits administration, employee counselling, employee reviews, legal issues relating to HR, and management training.
    • Demonstrated ability to get buy-in and support across an organization
    • Significant experience managing up, down and across in a multi-location/satellite office environment
    • Demonstrated discretion and diplomacy to be included in senior level compensation, planning and performance discussions at all levels including Executive
    • Experience developing incentive and compensation programs – benchmarking to salary and market surveys and competitive industries
    • Experience in managing day-to-day operations ensuring proper processes and checks are in place
    • Experience supervising/managing a small team
    • Demonstrated ability to be successful in a quickly evolving and rapid-paced organization.
    • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution and people management skills
    • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
    • Well developed coaching and leadership skills, both on a formal and informal basis.
    • Sound judgement, leadership, staff management, and teambuilding skills.
    • Creative, forward thinker.
    • Self Starter with a high degree of initiative.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Well developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Effective written communication and policy writing skills.
    • Effective time management skills and strict adherence to deadlines.
    • Interest in visual and performance arts and an understanding of the importance of cultural capital are highly desired traits.

    Qualifications:
    • Minimum of 7+ years working experience in a human resource management, in a progressive environment. 3-5 years experience managing people.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, or related field or equivalent experience. Master’s degree and/or CHRP/CHRL designation through HRPA degree a plus.
    • Strong practical knowledge of relevant legislation including ESA, Human Rights and other related legislation/regulations
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Visio)
    • Knowledge of current HR trends and best practices
    • Hospitality experience is an asset

  • CONTENT SPECIALIST

    You know it, the world doesn’t want to hear about your sick party anymore. What they do want to hear about? The underdog story of the DJ playing it, the process of the artist creating the installations and the bartender’s inspiration for the night’s feature cocktail. The Drake is looking for a Content Specialist to join the team to help us share our amazing stories with the world, and to have a lot of fun while doing it. As our in-house writer, you’ll embody the voice of the brand, penning everything from click-bait-y headlines to long-form copy in content that is timely, attention-grabbing and telling the story of The Drake brand.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    BRAND
    Own The Drake’s style guide, and implement with staff and partners.

    BLOG
    Curate and create blog calendar in service of overarching brand stories, upcoming promotional needs, partnerships, zeitgeist, and more. Seeing all editorial content through from ideation to coordination to execution and building relationships with featured writers, photographers and Drake Staff.

    SOCIAL
    Create monthly social media calendars across all social channels supported by an integrated content strategy that pushes followers across touchpoints and support Communications Coordinator in Community Management tasks.

    CAMPAIGNS, WEBSITES + EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN
    Write copy across all campaign collateral including: posters, postcards, eBlasts, calendars, event listings, digital ads, etc. Refresh websites regularly for current content and promotions and other copywriting tasks as needed including onsite signage, wayfinding signage, in-room collateral and more.

    • Familiarity with social media scheduling platforms (e.g. Hootsuite), Tumblr + WordPress an asset

  • DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS

    Drake General Store is a distinctive Toronto brand that has grown from a boutique gift shop at the Drake Hotel to a well-loved multi-location Toronto shopping and eCommerce destination. In addition to featuring the best locally & globally curated products we also develop our own private label brands that we wholesale and distribute to 100s of retailers.

    In recent years our business has grown from humble roots to a multi-layered retail business comprised of brick and mortar locations, store in store partnerships, private label production, warehouse sales and a growing online business. We require a strategic and dynamic leader to “oversee” these operations and lead this exciting phase of growth at the Drake General Store HQ (Eglington + Keele).
    You are someone with a proven track record of managing retail operations teams at a senior management level or higher. You have a keen understanding of financial information with a demonstrated ability to drive top and bottom line growth through analysis, decision and action. You are an energetic and strategic leader capable of inspiring teams to achieve great things.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Reporting to Drake General Store President, the Director of Operations will:

    • Manage, evaluate, develop and implement departmental budgets, operations tactics and strategies to maximize efficiency and adapt to changes in the marketplace to ensure market share growth
    • Develop and establish short and long term departmental goals, objectives policies and operating procedures
    • Create a culture of accountability by clearly defining, tracking and reporting monthly goals and outcomes with retail, wholesale and eCommerce departments
    • Analyze, monitor and report on operational activities through operational metrics and controls
    • Review all current processes and initiatives and work to optimize and ensure efficiencies in all aspects of the business- a continuous improvement mindset is critical
    • Identify, recommend and implement changes to outdated process is integral to the HQ Success and increase efficiency
    • Conduct process mapping, analysis, and redesign to drive operational improvements across the organization
    • Build, hire and maintain an engaging, effective and culturally rich retail and customer experience team
    • Collaborate with various departments including, Marketing & Category Management, Business Operations and Shared Services to develop and drive key initiatives and create strong cross-functional teams
    • Oversee workloads and provide staff supervision to Drake General HQ ensure that work is done accurately, efficiently that complies with policies, procedures, standards as well as best working practices.
    • Conduct needs analysis, as required, and work with operation team members to provide solutions to issues related to overall business performance
    • Develop and maintain successful retail systems, processes, training and day-to-day store operations & other channels
    • Determine and manage the total succession planning needs for the Business Units, including the identification of future talent and provision of necessary training and business exposure
    • Provide guidance, motivation, and performance review including hiring employees, to maintain and enhance competency levels, identify future training requirements and achieve goals to increase performance
    • Create successful, culturally rich customer service and retail teams for all locations and all channels
    • Develop + monitor key performance indicators and report to executive team
    • Actively demonstrate our mission, vision and values to all levels of the organization through approachable leadership and instill confidence in others to facilitate human performance

    REQUIREMENTS + SKILLS
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field or 8- 10 years’ of retail experience
    • 5+ years in a leadership role
    • Retail store or HQ management experience required
    • Holds self and others accountable driving team results through engagement and leadership

    • Demonstrates customer service excellence.
