January is the new December

Phew – it’s January and we can all share in a collective sigh of relief as the holidays are behind us! No fresh poinsettias to hit the shelves or every second store playing I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus for the next twelve months. Now that it’s behind us, it’s time to toast to your hard work (and that of your dedicated staff) by hosting a post-holiday holiday party!

Depending on your field of work, you may have been afforded the opportunity to celebrate the season during the season, but that’s not the case for everyone. Retail, spa, and hospitality (to name a few) are commonly too busy to celebrate while the yuletide is in full swing, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Why you ask? Because there’s always January and I’m here to sing the praises of the lesser appreciated winter month to lift your spirits. And one more little tip? Hosting in January has more perks than you’d think with an extra-special incentive program just for you.


Whether you’re looking for a team building retreat in the County, or a cocktail party at Drake One Fifty, or a great big get together over a family-style feast, here are a few reasons that January is the New December:

1. You can have your pick of the litter! If you want to host in December you have to start looking as early as summer depending on your group size. January however, the city is your playground and venues are ready and willing to take on private bookings as opposed to be pushed towards early week dates.

2. Everything costs less. With venues not fielding nearly the same volume of calls, they’re much more likely to give you a break on the extra costs surrounding taking over their space. The first place to start looking for ‘breaks’ is the landmark fee. Don’t be afraid to remind them that it’s January and there isn’t necessarily a line-up around the block knocking their door down.

3. Everyone’s a little bit more available. With social and corporate holiday parties out of the way in December, January sees a higher return rate on invited guests as there are less commitments the month following the festive season.

4. People are much more appreciative of a free meal. With the expensive nature of gift-giving today people are much more inclined to accept an invitation for a work-sanctioned (and paid for) opportunity to break bread.

5. It’s a holiday neutral zone. In today’s society we see people from all walks of life, and from all religious denominations. ‘Celebrating the New Year’ will ensure that you capture a higher return on invitations as there is no formal affiliation to the Holiday Season as it’s traditionally known.
