Meet some members of The Drake fam and find out why we're so proud of this award and our people. #workwiththedrake

We would never be able to create experiences the way that we do without our amazing team of staff, in our corporate office and at every individual property. We are so proud to be named one of Greater Toronto's Top Employers, and Chief Operating Officer Shivani Marx reflects on her experience in the Drake community.

Over my near 7 years with The Drake, I have been very proud of the accolades that we have been fortunate to receive, from design to food, to exemplary guest feedback to our brand strategy and hotel operational excellence. It is incredible to be a part of such a creative and talented team and each time we are recognized, it is truly humbling and a great motivator to keep working harder and striving further. Today, I have the pleasure of talking about a recent award that is especially close to my heart – GTA’s Best Employers 2018. It is exciting because it is a look inwards, not just at what we have done together, but how we have done it.

As the Drake has grown, so too has our team. In a dynamic industry with many world-class hotels, restaurants and head offices, we knew early on, that creating a culture where people could develop their skills, build for their futures and work with inspiring colleagues was essential. Plus – we wanted to it to be FUN! We didn’t just want to match what other companies did, but we wanted to challenge ourselves to look ahead at what was next, and what made sense for our changing team. To start, we introduced full-time benefits, tuition reimbursement programs, stronger performance management and referral bonuses. We listened to you about what you value, your challenges and what you hoped to achieve, which helped us create the maternity leave top-up, RRSP matching, professional development series, Drake anniversary awards and more. Going into the next year, we are excited for even more innovation with new vacation policies, paternity leave, Drake LEADS management development, new training paths, mentorship, enhanced hourly benefits and more. Though we are well on our way, we know that there is always more work to be done, improvements to make and suggestions and changes to be heard.

Throughout this evolution, the Drake has been growing, making it harder to see and speak to every employee each day. Keeping us all connected has become a top priority. From our DISH newsletter, to our briefings, town hall meetings and social events we have always wanted the Drake community to maintain its strong connection – to our offerings and each other. This doesn’t just happen with an HR team, it happens every day, in every one of our spaces, when you all take the time to coach, mentor, create a special moment, celebrate a success, say THANKS, listen to each other and share your ideas.

We are excited to have so many long tenured staff who have remained with The Drake because they have been able to learn and challenge themselves along the way. And we are overwhelmed by level of new and up and coming talent that has joined us to support our vision. We are committed to continuing to raise the bar to create an employment culture that rewards and recognizes you and supports us all in achieving our collective goals for the years to come.
