Manifesto is one of the biggest parties of the year and always brings out a vibrant crowd, hosting Toronto's perfect kick off to the summer season. This is our first year with Manifesto and we're proud to be a part of the massive celebration of the Canadian hip hop scene. We talked to Just John from Manifesto about the idea behind the house party and the values behind the festival.

What is Manifesto?
Manifesto is a non-profit, youth-powered platform designed to put local artists on the map and unite, inspire and empower diverse communities of young people through arts and culture, year-round.

Our Manifesto Festival kicks off June 8 to 11. The Manifesto Festival of Community & Culture is one of Canada’s biggest celebrations of hip hop culture and beyond – a multi-disciplinary, world-class festival with a positive social and economic impact.

What’s going on at the House Party?

We're transforming The Drake Hotel into Manifesto's home for the night, and you're all invited.

The basement we're opening the floor to Practice, the legendary night of curated musical improvisation, in a live setting. While connecting, highlighting and bolstering Toronto talent, Practice also gives music fans a chance to witness real-time musical creation. Anyone is invited to jump on stage and join the function which feels like you're literally instrumental in what feels like an ongoing jam packed rehearsal.

The lounge turns into the Manifesto living room. Drake guests get to feel right at Manifesto home, with DJ performances by Killax Kels (Gxxrls Creative Agency), Sammy Rawal, Dj Revy B (SUPAFRIKl) and special guests The Kryptids Dance Crew.

The Sky Yard becomes the perfect neon - mood with the help from installation artist Robin Clason featuring a display of light and shadow installations with sounds by Birthday Boy (Collectif Nude), Laith (PlusMood Radio), Abscvnd (Omit Limitation).

Why is The Drake a good spot for a House Party?

People tend to love house parties for it's freeing, comfortable vibe. I feel like The Drake is great at accommodating just that feeling. Also The Drake is very well known for hosting some of the best Hip-Hop artists from Toronto and internationally. And what's better than having three floors with three different atmospheres?

With a house party, everyone is instrumental to the experience so no matter how big the room is, everyone is a player to making this night a memory the day after and years to come and I'm sure that feeling will ring through the Drake walls that night.

Can you tell us about the artists who are playing?

We're excited to have some of the best DJs from the city all under one roof for the Manifesto House Party. The special thing is that they all come from different walks of life and artistic collectives that are doing great work for the community and Toronto's art and culture infrastructure right now. To have each of their own unique style is all apart of the formula for a making a diverse night filled with vibrations, connections and cultural vitality.

For people who’ve never experienced Manifesto before, what do they have to look forward to?

A safe space where you can attend, get free and experience Toronto's hip-hop art and culture.

All you need to know for the event is all right here. Come join us in the basement - Those who RSVP'D, get there before midnight! After midnight and without RSVP, tickets are $10 at the door.
