World Pride Wrap Up

Nuit Rose Facade

We recently hosted some absolutely fabulous World Pride festivities here at the Drake. To start things off we partook in Nuit Rose, a queer-focused contemporary art event that took place on Queen West. Balloon maestro Sean Rooney created a multicoloured inflated sculpture over the facade of the Hotel. Meanwhile inside, our artist-in-residence, Marlon Griffith engaged the Queen West community with his "Powder Box Project" as Canada’s first vogueing house, House of Monroe, preformed a dance pop up in the lounge.

Sunday was definitely a funday. On the 22nd, we hosted Barbie’s Basement Jewellery Pop-up shop, while Sybil spun in the Sky (Yard), and House of Monroe danced it out again. Later that evening, singer, actor, host and impersonator Jennifer Walls embarked in a fizzing cabaret/screening of Vincente Minnelli’s The Pirate (1948).

Thursday, June 26th was the most exciting event of them all. A Club Called Rhonda took over the hotel for a massive, 3 floor, polysexual chrome extravaganza. They packed the house from open till close (ahem, 4 am last call) and had the dance floor bumping with some amazing djs.

Pride Weekend was also in full swing at our stand alone restaurant, Drake One Fifty. Drag queens Igby Lizzard + Judy Virago engaged with guests during a special brunch we hosted on both Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 29th. We also gave away complimentary champagne to all couple married during World Pride weekend!

Last but definitely not least, the Drake General Store hosted a month long pride pop-up in Hudson's Bay. All our favourite vibrant pride accessories were carefully curated right to your fingertips in our World Pride Collection, including our World Pride tank and 1 Love TO collaboration t-shirt (which appeared on the MMVA run way by the way!) We had a gay old time (pun intended) but we're exhausted. Rest up and see you next year!
