New York City star chef Justin Smillie's bio reads like a Zagat guide to Manhattan's most illustrious restaurants + staples on the foodie scene.
His resume includes stints at Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Mercer Kitchen, Gramercy Tavern, Barbuto, The Standard, The Harrison and Andre Balazs's Sunset Beach on Shelter Island. Most recently, Smillie was executive chef of Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria, described by New York Times's critic Pete Wells as "New York’s most complete realization so far of a powerful myth: the simple and convivial spot that tastes just like Italy," and Smillie as a chef who "[does] amazing things with dishes that on paper sound commonplace.”
In May, Smillie left Il Buco Alimentari with plans to open a restaurant of his own. In advance of the opening of his much buzzed about NYC eatery, Smillie will make a stop in Toronto to test out signature items from his new menu at this one-night-only pop-up at Drake One Fifty, with the help of Drake Executive Chef Ted Corrado + team.
