Some call her a mini Joan Jett, with her all black outfits + completely cool attitude, but if you’ve been following The Kills since their inception, you already know that Alison “VV” Mosshart, the band’s lead vocalist, has been making a name all for herself, both musically + fashionably. With photographers trailing her at London Fashion Week, along with the thousands of Tumblr fans re-blogging pictures of her daily, Mosshart’s status as street-style star has clearly been cemented over the last few years.

Like any true style setter, Mosshart has adapted a tried + true uniform that encompasses the quintessential tough + tender look so many of us chase to emulate. Tight black jeans, her Hedi Slimane-designed gold boots, a handful of t-shirts, (though she typically sticks to just one for a whole tour) plus a leather jacket or button down shirt. Sure, it seems like an easy enough ensemble to put together, but pulling off those nonchalant, too-cool-to-care looks are frankly harder than they seem – yet Mosshart looks amazing every time she steps on the street or stage.

Speaking of the stage, as one half of London’s celebrated alt-punk duo – who just so happen to be playing at this year’s Field Trip Music & Arts Festival – style has always played a roll in the front woman’s presence. “It’s a show and I’m a performer and an artist and I’m not just gonna show up in sweat pants. I don’t own a pair. That’d be an impossible find. You’d have to do some Photoshop work for that.”

Whether she’s dying her hair bright blonde with pink tips – creating a frenzy throughout hair salon’s worldwide- or being spotted with Kate Moss, her bandmate’s wife, Mosshart is the epitome of rock n’ roll – individual, innovative + unaffected by commercial expectations.

The Kills play the MainStage at Field Trip Music & Arts Festival on Saturday June 7th at 8pm.
