On Tuesday May 5, we’re thrilled to welcome guest chef Donnie Masterton of critically acclaimed foodie favourite The Restaurant in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, who will guest star at Drake One Fifty for the second time, with a menu of Mexican inspired dishes for Cinco de Mayo.

Masterton changed the culinary landscape of artists’ colony and ex-pat haven San Miguel de Allende, voted by Condé Nast Traveler as the top city in the world in 2013, when he brought “global comfort food” to the quaint mountain town 166 miles northwest of Mexico City.

Called "the original fine dining restaurant in San Miguel that changed the culture of locavorism and set the town on a new path", "arguably the best eatery in (San Miguel)" and described by the New York Times as “an elegant and candlelit restaurant that serves international comfort dishes using organic ingredients from local ranchers, growers and dairy farmers,” opening the The Restaurant in 2008 was the culmination of Masterton’s passion for food and wine.

Before his move to Mexico, Masterton apprenticed under legendary New York Chef David Bouley at New York’s Montrachet, and was subsequently mentored by renowned American Chef Patrick Clark at restaurants in Beverly Hills, D.C., and New York. After helming several high profile restos in California’s Bay Area, Masterton packed up and moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, in pursuit of a simpler life.

For this special, one night only Cinco de Mayo pop-up at Drake One Fifty, Masterton has created a mouth-watering menu of modern interpretations of classical Mexican dishes, such as pepper crusted tuna tostadas with avocado, crisp leeks and chipotle crema, "pork carntitas" salad with lime, serrano chili, red onion, cilantro and cashews, coffee and ancho chili braised beef short ribs with triple cheese and poblano chile gratin, caramelized shallots and cumin glazed baby carrots, to name just a few features.

With Tromba tequila cocktail pairings and accompanying Latin grooves, this Cinco de Mayo event is one you won't want to miss.
