We're kicking off a year of special foodie events at 150 York Street, and what better day to start than Chinese New Year? Especially when the best pan-Asian cuisine you can sink your teeth into is involved.
That's what's happening at Drake One Fifty on Friday, January 31. We're marking the Year of the Horse with a special, one-day-only visit from Chef Nick Liu of GwaiLo, that pop-up culinary treasure in the Entertainment District. Every so often, Liu springs up around Toronto, bringing his pan-Asian taste-venture to various host restaurants. He calls it "invASIAN," and for lunch and dinner on the 31st, he's joining Executive Chef Ted Corrado and Executive Sous Chef Jonathan Pong to take over the kitchen at Drake One Fifty.
We're putting a modern twist on a few Chinese classics, and while we don't want to completely ruin the surprise, of course, we're always up for getting your tastebuds dancing it advance. Here's a look at what to expect:
Hot appetizers like fried quail, hoisin, and charred green onion.
Raw cuisine, with side stripe prawn lettuce cups, pomelo, candied walnuts, and fried rice noodles.
Whole fried trout with green onion, coriander, chili, friend almond-challots, green curry mayo, and caramel soy glaze, all drizzled in nahm Him sauce.
Crispy sweet and sour pork hocks with po po's original sauce.
Egg fried rice with ox chili sauce, Chinese truffles, and puffed rice.
