On Thursday evening a crew from the Drake’s corporate headquarters was given a chance to flex their creative muscles at Hall Pass, an event celebrating the opening of Artscape Youngplace. Artscape transformed a former elementary school into a community cultural hub housing studios and work spaces for artists + cultural organizations.
The back to school themed event played off the building’s former life and was replete with motifs from keener students and ringing school bells to rice krispy squares. Guests met in “homeroom” and were given a schedule that took them to various art classes, such as life drawing, papermaking, glee club and improv.
Hidden artistic talents were revealed in drawing class. The instructor for interpretive drawing was none other than artist Ed Pien.
Our Marketing Manager, Zoe, and HR Coordinator, Esther, totally absorbed in their papermaking assignment.
The hallways and common spaces of this former school now serve as gallery walls.
The post-class party kicked off with a pep rally, complete with cheerleaders and a marching band in full regalia. We now think every party should have a marching band.
Artscape is a not-for-profit organization that develops and manages affordable work/live spaces for artists and other cultural organizations.
