From Our Innkeeper

We're so excited thinking about the opening of our first-ever outpost, Drake Devonshire Inn! Find out what our Innkeeper, Christopher Loane, is most excited about our beautiful new Drake by the Lake.

Drake Devonishire Inn

This is the first of many blog posts I'm going to write about my life at The Drake Devonshire Inn. My wife Jessica and I are the Innkeepers. I love that term. Innkeeper. It sounds so romantic. I love telling people that I’m becoming an Innkeeper. It feels almost Dickensian. I feel like getting a pipe and growing a beard.

In a few short months, Jess and I will pack up our two boys (Harrison is four and Jude is just seven months) and move from downtown Toronto to the town of Wellington, Ontario. Population: 1 800. I’m beyond excited about this opportunity. Jess and I have been growing very tired of big city life. A move out of the city was inevitable, so for me to be able to move to a small town and still stay with the company that I love is almost too good to be true! I’m very thankful.

The Devonshire is going to be magical. I just know it. It has all the makings to be a truly special place to live and work. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Prince Edward County in the last 8 months and I have grown very fond of the people and the vibe there. Jess and I are sure this is where we want to put roots down, and raise our kids. We want the Inn to be a place of cultural engagement. We want families to feel comfortable, couples to feel pampered and travelers to feel like they have found an oasis. Community involvement will be key if this place is to thrive. We want to immerse ourselves in the town and make sure we are doing everything possible to honour the legacy that The Devonshire has carried for so many years.

Will I miss the big city? Of course I will. There will be a little culture shock for me. But, I welcome that change right now with open arms. I need to get out of the insulation of an urban environment and stretch my soul out a bit. Maybe I’ll start writing music again. Maybe I’ll run more. Maybe I’ll feel like life isn’t race, but a journey.

I plan on blogging at least once a week when the Inn opens. Until then, I'll make sure to keep you up to speed with any developments at The Drake Devonshire Inn. I look forward to sharing my journey with you!
