Our handsome graphic designer, Bryan, is heading to Toronto's Brick Works to witness one of the city's most talked-about art events of the year: ZED.TO. Find out what he thinks of this eerie immersive theatre experience.
ZED.TO is an immersive theatre experience. I think. It’s hard to pinpoint exactly what it is (besides incredible).
The back story goes roughly as follows: a pharmaceutical company called ByoLogyc has made advances in “lifestyle biotechnology,” which translate to vague advertising campaigns and millions in profits. Somewhere along the way, one of their products was compromised, resulting in an outbreak of BRX virus. The corporation blames hacker group EXE for the outbreak and has created the Sanitation and Containment Division to clean up the mess.
All of this has unfolded through episodic events at Toronto Fringe Festival and Nuit Blanche, as well as online through Facebook pages, message boards and videos.
On November 2nd and 3rd, ByoLogyc will open ByoRetreat, a safe haven from the spread of BRX. Touted as a kind of final showdown, four ticket options allow you to choose what part you play. Will you be on the front lines of the EXE protest or making key decisions as a ByoLogyc board member?
The scale of this project is really impressive. I’m a big fan of science fiction and apocalyptic stories and I can’t wait to experience it first-hand!
You can get tickets to ByoRetreat at the Brickworks at zed.to/tickets
