We love Halloween traditions, especially bobbing for apples! But what do you do with your apple bounty when the bobbing is over? Here's our recipe for perfect Halloween treats!
Nonstick cooking spray
4 cups sugar
1 cup heavy cream
12 Granny Smith or Red Delicious apples
Line a baking sheet with waxed paper and coat with cooking spray.
Insert a popsicle stick into each apple.
In a medium saucepan, bring the sugar and 1 cup of water to a boil over high heat. Reduce the temperature to medium-high and let it simmer, undisturbed, until the caramel is golden brown (about 8 minutes or while you listen to roughly two Songs of the Day). If you are using a candy thermometer you’re looking for the sugar to reach 280 degrees.
Remove the frying pan from the heat and very carefully stir in cream a little at a time (the mixture will splatter if you do it too fast). Transfer to a small bowl and let it cool for 15 minutes.
Dip apples into caramel, swirling to coat.
Sprinkle or dip in candy. Let them cool until the caramel has firmed up.
