One Way Out
Throughout the Drake Hotel Lobby and Cafe, LA based artist, Greg Ito presents a group of works that play with the idea of vacation and escapism. A castle, windows, an airplane, key holes, and a distant island are some of the visual triggers visitors will see during there stay at The Hotel.
Greg Ito’s practice uses a combination of painting, sculpture, and installation to tailor immersive experiences, exploring the facets in our lives such as love, fear, companionship, hope, and tragedy. Ito’s language is comprised of images and symbols depicted in crisply rendered paintings, surreal sculptural objects, and installations full of color and lighting treatments. Ito's lexicon of imagery stems from childhood stories, popular culture, current events, and history to evoke emotional tensions through the visual cues and interrelationships found within his compositions, and open narratives. With paintings, sculptures, ephemeral details, window and light gels, the lobby and cafe has been transformed into a bittersweet postmodern fairy tale.
