For the third year in a row, Executive Chef Alexandra Feswick, Senior Food and Beverage Manager Cheynelle Fraser and the team at Drake Devonshire are thrilled to be bringing together 15 female culinary and hospitality professionals for an evening of sips, snacks and conversation to celebrate International Women’s Day. Starting at 4PM, guests are invited to try out eats and drinks from some of the County’s top destinations including Drake Devonshire, Karlo Estates, Merrill Inn, Enid Grace Cafe, Midtown Brewing, The Grange of Prince Edward County Winery, Kinsip Distillery, La Condesa, Parson’s Brewing Company + more. All to be followed by a DJed dance party starting at 7PM. $15 Tickets available at the door (includes a raffle ticket), with all proceeds from ticket sales donated to Reaching for Rainbows. $3 tasting tickets. THE DRAKE HOTEL At The Drake Hotel on March 8 starting at 5PM, all are welcome to enjoy and participate in a panel and Q&A discussion focusing on generational equality for women, hosted by Char San Pedro, advocate and founder of the Good To Be Good Foundation and featuring, photographer and visual artist Zahra Siddiqui, Executive Director of Food Share Canada Paul Taylor, youth activist and speaker Diviya Leonard and speaker and motivator Karlyn Percil. The goal of the event is to encourage an open, positive and healthy discussion around gender equality in this new decade, focusing on how different generations can encourage and support one another. The panel discussion and Q&A will be followed by bites + DJ Cozmic Cat spinning from from 5PM in the Lounge and then a show in the Underground by Gxrls Need Love Presents: Who’s That Gxrl? The event is PWYC or a box of new feminine hygiene products (sanitary napkins preferred), with all proceeds going to Good To Be Good Foundation mission to support programs serving women and girls experiencing abuse, poverty and social injustice. Drake Commissary is partnering up with neighbours House of Anansi Press and Groundwood for two readings and talks on March 8th. First up is Helaine Becker, an award-winning author who has written over eighty books for children and is a two-time recipient of the Lane Anderson Award as well as a winner of the Silver Birch Award, will be reading to kids from her new book Pirate Queen: A Story of Zheng Yi Sao (illustrated by Liz Wong) and others, starting at 9:00 a.m. Later, friends and authors Judy Rebick and Annahid Dashtgard will be teaming up for a conversation as part of House of Anansi’s Women Do It Write series, a project that aims to amplify women’s stories, voices, and experiences, starting at 4 p.m. All talks and readings are free to join, and the authors will be available to sign books following, with books available for purchase. Herstory is Art History: Know Her Name. Over in the Financial District, Drake One Fifty is thrilled to welcome the team from Repaint History for a panel discussion with writer and curator Tatum Dooley, artist Shelley Adler, and Repaint History CEO and founder Pegah Kargar. This dynamic group, moderated by Jessica Tan will be discussing gender equality in the art world both past and present, while also debunking myths from 3PM-4:30PM.
