Brandon Baghaee: The Secret in my Mind
In his work, he paints and depicts people in everyday events and fantasies, drawing from memories or experiences and creating larger narratives and stories through these memories. There are also hints of his heritage, influenced by his bi-racial background being Persian and Black. In his practice, he enjoys painting the figure with value and depth and employing cartoon-like character design and settings. Overall, his works explore memories and story-telling to create and be a part of a larger sphere of ideas.
Brandon Baghaee (b.2002) is an artist living and working in Toronto who currently attends OCAD University, studying Drawing and Painting. He has participated in group exhibitions such as The Archive of Merit: From OSA to OCAD and Young Voices. He also did a project for the City of Toronto, painting five portraits for Black History Month and public art for STEPS Public Art. He plans on continuing to evolve his practice by exploring memory and story-telling in his work. He has also given artist talks, visiting his old high school to speak to the Grade 12 AP Visual Arts Class and speaking at the Young Voices 2022 Magazine launch.
