MONEYPHONE is an experimental pop-duo from Toronto, Canada comprised of Enoch Ncube and David May. Enoch was born in Zimbabwe and spent a few young years in Russia, before moving to Canada with his family in 2005. The group was formed in 2017 after Enoch and David were both experiencing frustration from working on musical projects individually and wanted to create a duo project in order to hold each other accountable.
Their music has been described by Pigeons & Planes as ‘gorgeously layered and expansive’ and self-described by Enoch as ‘equally inspired by Frank Ocean and Lil Uzi Vert as they are by Blink-182’.
MONEYPHONE represent a new generation of artists who grew up in the internet age, with a wealth of access to culture, music and design; their influences and sound are a real smorgasbord of textures.
Jonah Yano is a 24-year old singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Vancouver, British Columbia, currently residing in Toronto. His particular style of soul and r&b leans close to its blues and folk roots. Most of songs begin with guitar or piano in hand, live drums and his fuzzy, crooning voice. Over the last few years, he’s become a mainstay in Toronto’s music community through collaborations with producers and instrumentalists like Joseph L’étranger, MONEYPHONE and Badbadnotgood. This spring and summer will see the release of his first EP with LA based label, Innovative Leisure. The title-track, ‘nervous’, featuring the aforementioned Badbadnotgood has been well-received online and approaching a million streams on Spotify. The last single from the project, ‘cold’, was recently featured on Billboard. Expect more multimedia and IRL from him soon…
