Atlanta-based artist Flwr Chyld makes music for the soul. His otherworldly production of psychedelic-synth fusion beats coupled with luscious vocals has the power to transcend his listeners into a state of absolute bliss. While his music is avant-garde, it maintains a sense of familiarity by drawing on the influences and aura of artists such as Pharell and Outkast. His formal music education also shines through in all of his tracks in his ability to balance a wide range of sounds and rhythms while maintaining a sense of cohesion.

As the son of a band director who got his start in Dekalb County (which was a powerhouse for marching bands), I’d say that my chosen path to create music was inevitable. Long late night car rides listening to Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, D’Angelo, Pharrell, A Tribe Called Quest, and Dwele…pretty much sum up the start. I knew I loved that type of music (which was jazz and neo soul) but couldn’t describe what or how it made me feel as an adolescent.

Somehow I knew it made me feel good…Outside of being a kid, it gave me this sense of easiness to life. I started playing trombone in 6th grade (I’m 22 now), and always knew I wanted to do something in art, but stumbling across the infamous FL Studio demo when I was 14 put the icing on the cake for me. My dad bought me the full program and before you knew it here, I am. I ended up earning a music scholarship to attend the Georgia State University School of Music where I added keyboard into my creative palette.

Throughout my time in college, I played in the GSU Jazz Ensemble where I met the members of my band as well as the collective I create with now. Spending time creating in my dorm gave me an opportunity to really hone in on my sound as a producer/songwriter, and soon after I found myself working with ATL based artists Yung Baby Tate, Nai Br.XX, Grimm Lynn, and James Bambu. This would eventually elevate to me traveling to NYC to work with artists Devin Tracy and James Tillman. Thus far its been an amazing ride working with a roster of super dope artists and doing a ton of shows in 2018 that included a mini-tour. All in all, I’m blessed.
