Trevor Wheatley + Cosmo Dean
Look Alive, 2016
Mirrored glass, plastic, wire
Toronto artists Trevor Wheatley and Cosmo Dean adopt casually used, colloquial phrases for use in their large scale, guerrilla-inspired pieces in a variety of environments. Their prodigious art works incite laughter and inspire thought as they leave the viewer pondering their meanings. By placing text and nature side-by-side in Look Alive, the artists force the viewer to consider the relationship between the words and the space. Large letters fall through the trees, dipping down over the water and climbing back up amongst the tall branches.
The humour and social relevance of Wheatley and Dean’s artwork has earned them several collaborations with internationally recognized brands like Nike, Converse, and Nordstrom over the course of their partnership.
