After garnering local + international success from the moment we opened our doors, we are currently looking for an exceptional LEADER + GENERAL MANAGER to join us as we look ahead to our next exciting chapter.
About the Role
This individual will oversee all aspects of property and business management for the Drake Devonshire Inn (13 luxurious lakefront rooms) and Drake Motor Inn (12 spectacular family-friendly rooms + suites located across the street, in Wellington, ON, in beautiful Prince Edward County, 2 hours east of Toronto. In accordance with our overall mission statement, you will seek to create an exceptional, memorable, world-class establishment by maximizing financial performance, guest satisfaction, operational effectiveness and staff development within established quality standards for the Devonshire for both Hotel Operations and Food and Beverage. This role will report into the Chief Operations Officer.
Location Specific Reports: F+B Management, Sales + Events, Hotel Management, Facilities + Property Management, Executive Chef + Back of House (dotted line)
Corporate Support Partners: Marketing and some Sales, HR, Finance + Procurement, IT, Culinary, Cultural Programming + Hotel Leadership
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5-7 years in a cross-functional, hotel and hospitality management property, overseeing multiple hotel, food and beverage and operations departments within a high volume and/or, seasonal peak environment, as a General Manager
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and the ability to attract, retain and build a large, (100+ employees) high performing hospitality and operations team
- Post-secondary education in Hotel or Hospitality management a strong preference.

- You’re excited to oversee multiple hotel, food + beverage, and operations departments within a high-volume environment without breaking a sweat
- You have demonstrated the ability to attract, retain and build a high-performing hospitality, operations and sales teams who share your exceptional passion for service and exceeding targets
- You love keeping up with food + beverage trends, as well as movements in the lifestyle hotel and culture industries, whether it’s here in our little nook of the world or across the globe.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key metrics at the property:
Budget + Expense Management with strong emphasis on Hotel revenue and yield Management.
You’re a pro when it comes to the managing the books and maintaining financial acumen regarding the health of the business, throughout all seasons. Adapting to new business priorities, developing long and short-range financial objectives related to food costs, sales, labour and expenses come naturally to you and you thrive helping your team achieve their sales targets. You’re forward thinking, and it’s no sweat for you to implement strategies or corrective action to control purchases/inventory and bring costs in line and are eagle-eyed when it comes to pricing strategies and hotel revenue management.
Guest Satisfaction + Quality Control
Guest experience and satisfaction is at the heart of what you do. Working for an awarding-wining property is a great perk but you go out of your way to build long lasting relationships with patrons, stakeholders and team members and believe that it starts with ensuring a safe, secure and clean facility for all. And, you’re never not looking for ways to enhance the guest experience; evaluating and auditing hotel, food and beverage service offerings are just the start. Business Development + Community Relations
You know the importance of community and wouldn’t hesitate to invite a neighbor over for coffee to show them your favourite spot overlooking Lake Ontario. Business development + community relations are the cornerstones of your year-round sales, marketing, programming, public and community relations program. You’re a firm believer in building community and like to collaborate with local business and lead in a cross-functional manner – you understand when communities win, everyone wins.
Leadership / Staff Development
You are a natural born leader who believes that every role equally contributes to the success of the business. In-between managing a team of skilled managers, and highly engaged hourly employees, you are known for cultivating a positive, fun and engaged work environment and believe strongly in mentorship and training; where employees are developed for future roles, resulting in higher employee retention and a successful, positive team attitude.
Operations Management/Safety/Compliance
You love providing leadership and strategic operational planning cross functionally; from overseeing food, beverage and rooms/front operations, to engineering, preventative maintenance, AGCO compliance, emergency procedures and health and safety and protocols (COVID-19), when it comes to day-to-day operations, its no task to uphold established standards all the while maintaining a keen bird’s eye view of the building-wide business.
