Workflow presents Gamma Waves a solo exhibition by Morgan Booth. 7PM_10PM

Science suggests that short wave colors like blue can slow the heart rate, inducing relaxation, while warmer hues, like red, possess the capacity to stimulate and elevate heart rate. This deliberate play with color effects becomes a central theme, encouraging observers to introspectively navigate their own emotional and physical reactions to each piece. In "Gamma Waves," these color dynamics are enhanced by the incorporation of swirling patterns inspired by the brain's gamma wave activity, associated with moments of insight and heightened cognitive processing. By embedding these patterns into the artwork, the exhibition aims to engage viewers in a deeper cognitive and emotional experience, mirroring the brain's state during profound realizations.

The surreality of colour and the contemplative expressions of the characters are used to push and pull the viewer. Often caught in an unwavering stare, the figures intend to create an experience where the viewer is captivated by the sensation of being seen. This intimate and sometimes discomfiting interaction is further amplified by the hypnotic, swirling patterns, drawing viewers into a trance-like state where they can explore their own consciousness and emotions.

Morgan Booth is an established Pop Figurative artist based in Toronto, Canada. Her signature blue figure oil paintings use surreal color choices and figures to explore concepts of identity and discovery of self. Playing with the perceptual experience and physical response to colour, Booth uses blue tones to evoke feelings of calmness and contemplation, while using the intensity of warm colors as an emotional contrast.
