Workflow x Fineline presents Jewellery for Your Home solo exhibition by Attiya Khan 7PM_10PM

The new collection was inspired by a painter who told me that my stained glass is like "jewellery for the home." It combines bright, bold colours along with contrasting textures that range from smooth to wavy to jagged. The result is colourful shining pieces that come alive and cast beautiful reflections across rooms.

For me, stained glass is a response to the monotonous greyscale of our urban environment and to my own personal history. After experiencing domestic violence as a teenager and working decades in the field of domestic violence prevention, overcoming a life-threatening rare disease called Pheochromocytoma, and experiencing the stress and isolation of the pandemic, I found myself searching for a creative antidote to all of this heaviness. I found it in stained glass, a medium that allows me to bring more colour, light, joy and vibrancy to others, and to my own life. I’ve fallen deeply in love with glass and enjoy getting lost in the process. Each stage takes time, patience, and precision -- from sketching a design, choosing the glass, cutting the pieces, grinding the edges, wrapping each piece in copper foil, soldering the pieces together, and waxing the finished piece so it shines brightly.

Creating these pieces brings a sense of calm to my body and mind, grounding me. I believe that the care that goes into making each piece is transferred into the homes where my artwork hangs.
