Join us as The Drake Hotel welcomes IC Contemporary for their month-long exhibit 'Traces of Us,' at Stackt Market and The Modern Wing Lobby. This exhibit will be up as part of Nuit Blanche and will run from September 23rd to October 22nd. 

“Traces of Us” is a collection of multidisciplinary portals that transport audiences to six immersive environments inspired by artists’ respective diasporic identities. The Drake Hotel will be home to Par Nair for the duration of this exhibition, while the remaining five artists will be displayed at Stackt Market.

Artist Par Nair will be exhibiting “a touching" (2023). "a touching" is an installation where Nair has hand-embroidered a poem onto her mother’s red saree, as a way of responding to intergenerational knowledge transmissions and translations. Nair wanted to touch her mother’s sarees that once draped her body, repeatedly with her needle, and thread her own stories with her mothers. The presence of the hand in the labour-intensive process of hand embroidery implies how we may touch or not touch our mothers and grandmothers.

IC Contemporary (ICC) is a Toronto-based art collective that utilizes online and in-person art programming to support emerging and under-represented artists through exhibitions, artist talks, and community programming.
