Blind music producer and recording artist Mattmac is making waves across Canada and beyond, blending melodic pop-trap beats with a powerful, deeply personal story. Originally from Garden Hill First Nation in Manitoba and born blind, Mattmac found music early on as a source of strength, singing in his community’s gospel choir before teaching himself how to make beats, write songs, and play piano and guitar. He credits much of his early growth to Blind & Famous, a U.S.-based collective of blind artists who support and collaborate virtually.
Mattmac first gained national attention in 2016 when the N’we Jinan mobile music studio visited his community. Their collaboration on “Help You See” went viral, opening the door to further opportunities — including a performance alongside Nelly Furtado at Indigenous Day Live and We Day Canada in 2017. The two have continued to work together since.
Since his debut, Mattmac has amassed over 30 million streams, with music featured on major Spotify editorial playlists including New Music Friday Canada, Fresh Finds, Northern Bars, All New Hip-Hop, and Indigenous. He’s received critical acclaim from CBC, CTV, Virgin Radio, and more, and landed two #1 singles on the Indigenous Music Countdown with “Paradise” and “Rez.”
His list of accolades continues to grow: CBC Searchlight 2023 Winner, Album of the Year at the International Indigenous Hip-Hop Awards 2023, Canada’s Walk of Fame RBC Emerging Musician Award (2022), Rap/Electronic Album of the Year at the Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards (2022), and the Broadcast Dialogue Emerging Artist Radio Award (2021). He also charted in the Top 50 on the Mediabase charts in 2020.
Following his breakout debut 20/20, Mattmac released his second album Blurred Visions — an introspective coming-of-age record capturing the struggles and uncertainties of a young artist navigating life between the reserve and the city. The album was recorded partly in his childhood home and in various Winnipeg studios, as he explored new love, social pressures, and the challenges of recognition, all while pushing the boundaries of his self-produced sound.
Now with his third album All Eyes On Us available everywhere, Mattmac continues to inspire with his message of resilience and possibility — showing listeners that no matter the obstacles, anything is possible.
