Erik Burke
Road Trip, 2017
Erik Burke is an artist based in Reno, NV who uses site-specific work as an opportunity to transcend tourism, explore citizenship, and engage communities. Burke’s passion for travel has provided him with a wealth of understanding and learning experiences centred on built environments and the ever-changing geography of the land we live on. This work blends abstract elements with photorealism and was inspired by the artist’s fascination with the American Goldfinch migration patterns in the Wellington area. Burke’s work reflects a deep interest in story-telling and the narrative power of imagery to re-activate spaces. Using portrait-making techniques and ecology, he creates allegories of stories untold.
Burke’s work has been exhibited extensively throughout Europe and North America, including galleries and festivals in Spain, Ukraine, Mexico City, and across the United States.
