ACRYLIC PAINT ON MIRRORED ACRYLIC
Toko Hosoya (b. 1997, Japan) is a Japanese-born Canadian artist and illustrator based in Toronto. Through extensive processes of artistic research, collection, and experimentation their practice seeks to explore and present the fantastical realms that lie just beyond reality.
Hosoya’s installation work takes form as a series of indeterminate shapes cut from mirrored acrylic. Cleverly painted with fragments of mushrooms, trees, and other organisms, each one feels simultaneously familiar and entirely unknown. The reflective surfaces invite the viewer to participate in the imaginative process by interacting with each playful piece as they move through the fanciful realm of the artist's creation
