Cabin Fever, 2014
Vintage paper with mixed media
Using the simplest materials, vintage paper and glue, NYC’s Kristen Hassenfeld crafted this installation that fills the entrance atrium in a delicate, yet expansive way. When the morning light floods in, the transparent qualities of stained glass and gemstones are visible and lend a substantial physicality to the fragile, paper forms as the colours and patterns come alive with the excitement of a new dawn
Trained in printmaking, paper-making, and book-making processes, working with paper is like second nature for Hassenfeld and it is ingrained in her practice.
Her past exhibitions include the Brooklyn Museum (Brooklyn, NY), P.S.1. (Queens, NY), and Peter Mendenhall Gallery (Pasadena, CA) as well as spaces in Los Angeles, Chicago and Florence, Italy.
