JASMINE CARDENAS
BROKEN TELEPHONE, 2021
PAINTING ON BOARD
Jasmine Cardenas (b. 1995, Canada) is a Canadian-Ecuadorian multi-disciplinary artist working with sculptural paintings, collage, and installation.
Rooted in collecting personal memories, photos, observations and gestures on paper, Broken Telephone explores the process of making and the ways in which we recall memories. Cardenas’ collection of shapes is repeatedly drawn and redrawn; varying naturally until the original reference point becomes ambiguous. The cut-outs leave the freeness of drawing and become something more permanent. This personal language creates an indirect narrative; these shapes stop being tied to memory and become new feelings.
