County-based artist Stewart Jones’ work focuses primarily on the sidelines of the city, and the relationship between light and shadow in the urban environment. He documents the mundane with thick, bold strokes of colour and delicate, intricate details that effectively place the viewer in the space. Throughout the course of his career, Jones has visited Al Purdy’s work for subject and title inspiration, as well as personal enjoyment. Purdy was a 20th Century free-verse poet whose career spanned five decades. He was a local to the county whose impressive body of work included thirty-nine books of poetry, a novel, and more.
Stewart Jones’ work has been exhibited across North America at galleries and festivals including Affordable Art Fair (New York), the Artist Project Toronto (Toronto), and Aqua Art Miami (Miami).
