  • DAYTIME BARTENDER

    The Drake Hotel, known as the energetic hub for visual and performance art, dining and hospitality, is looking for a self motivated and mature, Day Time BARTENDER. This is a dream position for a polished and passionate hospitality professional seeking to work in a boutique hotel environment that is focused on providing world-class service to our guests.

    Experienced and reliable candidates should meet the following criteria:

    - Minimum 2-3 years bartending and serving experience
    - Experience in daily F+B executions and opening procedures
    - Ability to manage a volume of guests alone/with shared support
    - Experience with private and corporate events an asset
    - Weekends + holiday availability is a must

  • MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN

    This position requires an individual who is comfortable in a fast paced, ever changing building environment, with a wide variety of operations and technical needs. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the functioning of the building while on duty, by applying preventative maintenance techniques and or executing major and minor repairs, supervising Building Services Representatives, overseeing maintenance issues, daily and weekly cleaning schedules and assisting with renovations and large projects as they arise. Reporting to the Building Services Manager, the Technician is also responsible for the following:

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist the Builders Services Manager with the day to day operation of the building by performing assigned duties
    • Act as a point of contact for all building and grounds related issues
    • Perform special projects as assigned by the Building Services Manager
    • Work with service providers to ensure contract obligations are met with value of service
    • Conduct daily inspections of the property and take appropriate action to ensure the highest standard of maintenance
    • Participate in all building operations relative to Fire, Health and Safety procedures and audits
    • To be available on call to respond to emergency situations when off site

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of 2 years relevant work experience. Hotel experience is an asset
    • Strong drywall and painting knowledge
    • Basic mechanical/electrical aptitude and trouble-shooting skills
    • Plumbing skills and abilities
    • Excellent interpersonal skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work in a team environment
    • Must be able to lift up to 20 kg unassisted, and be able to work from heights
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and activities
    • Knowledge of outlook, word and excel
    • Adaptable to flexible working schedule
    • Community College of Trade School training on building systems; SMT (Systems Maintenance Technician) designation would be an asset

  • DRAKE COMMISSARY, FOOD + BEVERAGE OPERATIONS MANAGER (INTERNAL POSTING)

    Drake Hotel Properties is pleased to announce the latest addition to its growing hospitality brand, the innovative Drake Commissary, slated to open in spring 2017 on Sterling Rd., in the evolving Junction Triangle area! The Drake Commissary is a multi-purpose space that will function as a bakery, larder and bar; essentially, a casual, social neighbourhood hub, alongside The Drake’s culinary workshop, offering modern counter or traditional table service with made-from-scratch, healthy foods to eat in or take home.

    We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate, Food and Beverage, Operations Manager to be a part of this exciting opening and build a strong team of hospitality professionals. This position requires a combination of skills and experience that include operational excellence in a high-volume business, as well as a proven track record for outstanding food + beverage service, a solid understanding of events and reservation systems and team leadership. The ideal candidate will bring management experience from a similar environment, as well as best practices in guest service, staff management, operations, safety and compliance.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    In joining our F+B management team, you will be bringing experience in hiring, training and mentoring an exemplary front of house team. You will have a demonstrated track record in achieving set objectives in overall revenue targets, cost management, employee retention, customer service and satisfaction, health + safety, AGCO/legal compliance and cleanliness standards. You are a genuine and natural leader, who believes in the art of hospitality and who takes great pride in the Drake and our offerings.

    You will have a deep knowledge of service best practices, food and wine and will have demonstrated experience in sharing this knowledge effectively to build a consistent, service focused, efficient front of house team.

    Budget + Expense Management
    • Create and share reporting on top level sales, labour and expense results, identifying trends, challenges and issues. Implement corrective action with input from the team.
    • Control purchases and inventory and remain abreast of challenges with property operating expenses against the approved budget
    • Maintain close oversight of labour and food costing, ensuring efficiency and reducing waste. Work closely with Chef to implement directives from Corporate Culinary and F+B leadership
    • Review reports, prepare summaries, propose areas for improvement with action plans
    • Prepare materials for Month End, Quarterly and Annual Reviews

    Leadership / Staff Development
    • Cultivate a positive and engaged work environment, with a focus on accountability, training, mentoring and continuous feedback
    • Support corporate led training initiatives and develop, along with management team, training programs specific to your location and business.
    • Participate in hiring, onboarding and training as required
    • Actively engaging in the performance management and development process, along with the other Food and Beverage Managers, of the full FOH hourly team

    Guest Satisfaction + Quality Control
    • Maintain product and service quality standards through ongoing evaluations, reviewing Key Performance Indicator, Secret Shopper and Guest Satisfaction Survey scores and investigating complaints.
    • Ensuring a unique and genuine guest experience by empowering staff to resolve issues, while acting as a supportive and active leader who will manage situations as they evolve
    • Working in tandem with the host team to ensure all reservations are input correctly and honored in a timely fashion
    • Making sure that the reservation book is being utilized correctly to maximize sales whilst balancing guest satisfaction and comfort

    Operations Management/Safety/Compliance
    • Ensure seamless building operations by following and enforcing policies and standard operating procedures that are site specific and in adherence to Drake’s established standards
    • Ensure exceptional safety practices of employees and guests, assisting in the maintenance of proper food/liquor handling, storage, service, emergency and security procedures
    • Maintaining a strong focus on achieving and/or exceeding revenue targets, within acceptable labor cost and service standard parameters
    • Understanding, adhering to and executing all F+B operational policies + procedures, standards and training programs
    • Monitoring and managing service, quality, health + safety and cleanliness
    • Ensuring that AGCO, municipal and provincial laws are being adhered to
    • F+B projects, results analysis and inventory management as assigned
    • Ensure maintenance of equipment, facility, and grounds through the use of a Preventative Maintenance Plan based on DHP standards.

    Business Development + Community Relations
    • Attract guests by developing and implementing year-round marketing, programming, public and community relations programs; evaluating program results; identifying and tracking changing demands on F+B operations
    • Utilize corporate marketing resources to develop and implement ongoing campaigns, both location and company specific.

    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • 5-7 years of progressive experience in a fine or casual dining environment
    • Strong preference given to candidates with a minimum ISG, WSET or comparable Level 1 wine training
    • Awareness of current culinary trends in the marketplace
    • Operations management experience in a high-volume establishment with significant experience with reservation systems
    • Experienced trainer and mentor to large staff teams
    • Demonstrated patience, tact and diplomacy while leading a diverse team of industry professionals
    • Ability to multi-task, remain cool and keep up in a fast-paced environment.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication experience, both verbal & written
    • Excellent organizational skills, with timely delivery of all required administrative work
    • Experience with Silverware, Microsoft Office and Open table, a strong asset
    • Flexible to work evenings and weekends and holidays
    • Smart serve certified

    The Drake Hotel is seeking a dynamic and reliable individual with a passion for bread and cooking to join a fast-paced kitchen team as a BAKER. We currently have one position available which offers the opportunity to work with a fantastic culinary team with a busy day and night time operation including regular and special events business. The ideal candidate is interested in learning to make and bake bread on a high level.

    1 years experience in a baking role in a high volume environment is an asset but not required
    Ability and commitment to work early mornings (3am start time) and flexibility to work weekdays/weekends as needed.

    As we continue to building upon our current training programs, we are excited to launch the third round of our F+B Supervisor development program. This full-time OR part-time development opportunity begins in March and comes to an end in October, after Nuit Blanche.

    The FOOD + BEVERAGE SUPERVISOR program provides a unique opportunity for passionate individuals who are looking to build experience towards their hospitality career, and learn the ins and outs of supervising and leading in a high-volume, guest-focused environment.

    With a focus on DRAKE HOTEL’s DAYTIME and WEEKEND BRUNCH BUSINESS, we are seeking a candidate with a combination of skills and experience that include operational excellence in a high volume business, as well as a proven track record for outstanding food + beverage service, a solid understanding of events and reservation systems and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have a passion for hospitality and be eager to build experience, as well as best practices in guest service, staff management, operations, safety and compliance. While no prior supervisory or management experience is required, the ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate times throughout their early career when they led others to positive results.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Reporting to the Director, Operations, you will be responsible for supervising F+B operations while on shift. The focus for this position will primarily be weekday daytime business, and weekend brunch business. Your schedule will primarily consist of Opening shifts.

    While on shift, your role will include, but not be limited to:

    • Understanding, adhering to and executing all F+B operational policies + procedures, standards and training programs
    • Ensuring a unique and genuine guest experience by empowering staff to resolve issues, while acting as a supportive and active leader who will manage situations as they evolve
