  • SALES ASSOCIATE - HBC QUEEN + UP EXPRESS

    The Drake General Store continues Drake’s mandate for providing a community based hotbed for culture, an energetic hub for visual and performance art, dining, hospitality and, now, treasure hunting.

    The Drake General Store is seeking motivated and experienced PART TIME SALES ASSOCIATES to join our HBC QUEEN/ UP EXPRESS team + grow with our company. If you are design savvy, up to date with current trends, comfortable with books, clothes, jewelry, curios and most importantly, people, we are looking for you.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Accountable for meeting retail sales and business objectives
    • Execute operations such as daily tasks outlined, adhere to guidelines in Store Audit
    • Control and minimize shrink through awareness, proactive initiatives.
    • Personify and exhibit DGS core values
    • Utilize the guidelines set out in the DGS selling right guide.
    • Ensure the store is opened and closed accurately and efficiently

    MERCHANDISE RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Maintain merchandising standards.
    • Communicate customers feedback about merchandise to SM and TL
    • Ensure store looks fresh and clean for every customer experience
    • Continue to audit and spot check store inventory to ensure accuracy
    • Communicate merchandise sell throughs and inventory inaccuracies as well as transfer errors.

    ADMINISTRATION
    • Verify cash float, deposits and all monies tendered (ie balance receipts)
    • Maintain accurate clock in/out records
    • Ensure cash always has enough change to get through 3 business days
    • Communicate any supplies needed or fixtures that need repair.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum of 2 years in a retail or customer service environment
    • Demonstrated abilities with sales + customer relationship building
    • Must be able to work well and remain motivated within an independent, unsupervised environment
    • Experience in a supervisory or “key holder” function within a retail store would be considered a strong asset
    • Open availability to work weekdays + weekend shifts

  • IN-HOUSE ASSOCIATE PRODUCT DEVELOPER

    Since, 2008, the Drake General Store Originally opened as a retail presence for Toronto’s iconic Drake Hotel. We’re a traditional hotel gift shop, a classic general store, a flea market stand + a museum shop all rolled into one. Our signature neon purple cross, inspired by classic European pharmacies, lets our guests know they’ve arrived not only at a Canadian cultural crossroads, but also at a community-based hotbed for culture, visual and performance art, dining, hospitality + treasure-hunting.

    We have evolved over the years into a truly unique + proudly Canadian retailer – offering gifts, clothing + accessories, housewares, curated curiosities and treasures of old + new. We have four proprietary sub-brands; Drake General Store, Shared, Held in Common + Arborist – that together make up our private label product collection. Private label product is extremely important to our business and key to future growth of DGS. These collections currently equate to over 60% of in-store + online sales and 100% of wholesale + corporate orders. Our goal is to create unique + exclusive products that fill the void of what is currently available in the marketplace. The success of the In-House Associate Product Developer role will be measured in large part by the development of executable products and apparel, while working within set budgets, schedules, and quality standards. This role reports into the Director of the Drake General Store, but they will also work in conjunction with Designer(s), Buyer(s) and Graphic Designer(s).

    Responsibilities:
    • Communication of tech packs, label packages and graphic templates to domestic and overseas vendors
    • Receive and input quotes based on minimum order quantities
    • Monitor and track development of sampling processes, production approvals, 3rd party trims/notions. Communicate daily with on and off shore vendors to ensure sampling and
    orders are on track and production issues are resolved in a timely manner. Off-hour communication necessary within reason
    • Work along-side technical and production teams in sample comments/changes/specs.
    • Maintain an active role in Design Flow meetings by preparing samples and design changes for team buy in
    • Clearly communicate production quarries, issues and delays to Sr. Design Manager, presenting feasible resolutions to these issues in a timely manner with support from In- House Product Developer
    • Co-Create and manage sample/production Time and Action schedules in a multi-SKU, multivendor, high volume capacity
    • Ensure Time and Action calendar deliverables are met and held by domestic and off shore vendors alike
    • Coordinate with designers, graphics, buyers, and technical designers to ensure all production requirements, such as quality, colors, trims, graphic placement, fabrication, and fit are met and clearly communicated to vendors
    • Facilitate, track, and file sample and production approvals and comments completed by design team.
    • Maintain an organized sample/trim inventory
    • Implementation of trims and notion package guidelines with nominated suppliers
    • Create and submit approved PO’s from approved working buy. Update PO’s to reflect changes in production process
    • Present sample and bulk order deposits and balance payment needs to Sr. Design Manager on a weekly ongoing basis
    • Daily maintenance of cost + Work-In-Progress (WIP) docket tracking
    • Management of off-shore 3rd party quality control/testing procedures
    • Create comprehensive shipping marks, allocations, and barcode artwork
    • Request shipping quotes for management approval
    • Shipping consolidation and weekly tracking
    • Daily communication of land dates + shipment tracking with freight forwarder and Shipping/Receiving department alike
    • Submission of shipping documents to Shipping/receiving in a timely and efficient manner
    • Management of in-house quality control and reporting on receipt of bulk merchandise
    • Update and maintain monthly reports on raw and finished goods inventory
    • Track and archive all final and updated tech packs/trim packages/PO’s/samples/shipping documents etc.

    Skills + Qualifications:
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in product development + design
    • Lives the Drake General Store + Drake Hotel properties lifestyle
    • Outstanding eye + visual aesthetic and appreciation for good design
    • Ability to collaborate + work well within a team setting to create the best product that is focused on our customer
    • Comprehensive understanding of Time and Action calendars
    • Ability to navigate strategically around production issues/resolution
    • Must be a high functioning, creative problem solver with excellent communication and attention to detail
    • Must have good understanding of garment + product construction as well as technical knowledge of production is a must
    • Must be pro-active and possess the ability to meet tight deadlines
    • Must have aptitude for a high paced environment with the ability to manage many moving parts
    • Must be organized logical thinker with aptitude for both administrative and creative duties
    • Communication and detailed organization a MUST
    • Exceptional communicator (best in your group), positive attitude + very organized
    • Ability to respond to business objectives with creative and innovative product solutions
    • Eagerness to learn + able to juggle multiple tasks + quickly adapt to new situations
    • Autonomous, self-managed + resourceful
    • Must have aptitude for a high paced environment with the ability to manage many moving parts and multiple tasks efficiently
    • Must have a positive attitude and be open and willing to support team to drive product to the finish line
    • Must have good time management and organizational skills
    • Must have good written and verbal communication skills
    • Children's wear design and garment construction knowledge a plus
    • Potential to travel to factories for development and execution of programs domestic and overseas.

    High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft office a must!

  • TEAM LEAD- QUEEN WEST

The Drake General Store is seeking motivated and experienced FULL TIME EXPERIENCED TEAM LEAD to join our QUEEN ST. WEST team + grow with our company. If you are design savvy, up to date with current trends, comfortable with books, clothes, jewelry, curios and most importantly, people, we are looking for you.

    The objective of the Queen West, Team Lead role is maximizing in-store sales. They will achieve this through various activities including: the maintaining store operations, steps of service and the Drake brand, supporting store marketing and promotions, leading by example and providing exemplary customer service, and maintaining store + merchandising standards through the measurement of KPIs, to ultimately drive revenue, guest satisfaction.

    RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

    Store Operations
    • Collaborate with the Area Manager to manage the stores physical and financial resources through KPIs measurement, communicating operation needs to Area Manager and/or the appropriate department, providing leadership and guidance to staff, and ensuring a superior service experience is delivered to all guests
    • Working with the Merchandising Coordinator to effectively merchandise and maintain store aesthetics (inventory management, receiving, floor merchandising, back stock organization)
    • Work with Sales Associates to ensure all responsibilities + duties are completed on the Daily

    Task Check List
    • Complete the “Daily Doc/ EOD” recapping ATD, conversation, UPT, sales, traffic, emails and goals and send to Area Manager
    • Work with Area Manager on staff performance reviews and action plans
    • Support payroll, labour budgets and expense
    • Support Area Manager completing weekly reporting including: supply orders, restock requests, and time clocks (detail+ summary)
    • Support monthly inventories and ensure accurate and timely inventory management controls
    • Complete Inventory Discrepancy Report Summary through investigation and audits with Area Manager
    • On call to support store or staff questions and/ or issue that may arise

    Sales Responsibilities
    • Work with Area Manager to produce sales strategies and objectives for the store
    • Execute DGS marketing initiatives and promotions, to increase overall store sales
    • Support sales + business objectives and proactively recommend improvements on a regular basis
    • Drive store business by growing ADT and email database, and exceeding daily targets

    Training Responsibilities
    • Support training and on-boarding of all New Hires from start to finish
    • Assist the Area Manager in growing + developing training programs and optional training seminars
    • Encourage and promote on-going in store and optional training programs

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Minimum of 2-3 years in a retail or customer service environment
    • Demonstrated abilities with sales + customer relationship building
    • Must be able to work well and remain motivated within an independent, unsupervised environment
    • Experience in a supervisory or “key holder” function within a retail store
    • Open availability to work weekdays + weekend shifts, full time availability
    • Food handlers certificate is an asset
