  • SALES ASSOCIATE- QUEEN WEST

    The Drake General Store continues Drake’s mandate for providing a community based hotbed for culture, an energetic hub for visual and performance art, dining, hospitality and, now, treasure hunting.

    The Drake General Store is seeking motivated and experienced PART TIME SALES ASSOCIATES to join our QUEEN ST. WEST team + grow with our company. If you are design savvy, up to date with current trends, comfortable with books, clothes, jewelry, curios and most importantly, people, we are looking for you.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Accountable for meeting retail sales and business objectives
    • Execute operations such as daily tasks outlined, adhere to guidelines in Store Audit
    • Control and minimize shrink through awareness, proactive initiatives.
    • Personify and exhibit DGS core values
    • Utilize the guidelines set out in the DGS selling right guide.
    • Ensure the store is opened and closed accurately and efficiently

    MERCHANDISE RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Maintain merchandising standards.
    • Communicate customers feedback about merchandise to SM and TL
    • Ensure store looks fresh and clean for every customer experience
    • Continue to audit and spot check store inventory to ensure accuracy
    • Communicate merchandise sell throughs and inventory inaccuracies as well as transfer errors.

    ADMINISTRATION
    • Verify cash float, deposits and all monies tendered (ie balance receipts)
    • Maintain accurate clock in/out records
    • Ensure cash always has enough change to get through 3 business days
    • Communicate any supplies needed or fixtures that need repair.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Minimum of 2 years in a retail or customer service environment
    • Demonstrated abilities with sales + customer relationship building
    • Must be able to work well and remain motivated within an independent, unsupervised environment
    • Experience in a supervisory or “key holder” function within a retail store would be considered a strong asset
    • Open availability to work weekdays + weekend shifts
    • Barista experience is an asset

  • eCOMMERCE RETAIL MANAGER

    Since, 2008, the Drake General Store Originally opened as a retail presence for Toronto’s iconic Drake Hotel. We’re a traditional hotel gift shop, a classic general store, a flea market stand + a museum shop all rolled into one. Our signature neon purple cross, inspired by classic European pharmacies, lets our guests know they’ve arrived not only at a Canadian cultural crossroads, but also at a community-based hotbed for culture, visual and performance art, dining, hospitality + treasure-hunting.

    We have evolved over the years into a truly unique + proudly Canadian retailer – offering gifts, clothing + accessories, housewares, curated curiosities and treasures of old + new. We have four proprietary sub-brands; Drake General Store, Shared, Held in Common + Arborist – that together make up our private label product collection. Private label product is extremely important to our business and key to future growth of DGS. These collections currently equate to over 60% of in-store + online sales and 100% of wholesale + corporate orders. Our goal is to create unique + exclusive products that fill the void of what is currently available in the marketplace. As we continue to broaden and grow the reach of our brand and offerings, we are seeking an eCommerce Retail Manager that demonstrates a passion for online retail business models, Search Engine Optimization and brings innovative approaches to DGS. He/she possess strong business acumen, proven relationship building skills in an office environment and an “entrepreneurial” attitude to competitive challenges and growth opportunities.

    Position Overview:
    Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Marketing and Business Development, the eCommerce Retail Manager (ERM) is the subject matter expert with regards to the digital retail space, and is responsible for constructing a world class online shopping experience across all digital channels. They are responsible for the entire operations of their categories, with a primary focus on driving traffic, optimizing content, analyzing business KPIs, understanding the online retail landscape, and leading business initiatives to ultimately grow category sales on drakegeneralstore.ca. The ERM acts as the leading authority in the Canadian marketplace with respect to online customer experience and multi-channel integration across all channels for their respective categories.

    Responsibilities of the eCommerce Retail Manager:

    Business Performance Management
    • Analysis of business KPIs to gain insights on customer behavior
    • Builds strategic business plans based on above analysis to optimize KPI performance
    • Works in tandem with cross-functional teams, including Buying, Marketing, IT, Retail Ops, etc to provide insights and proposals for best in class online experiences for all sales, campaigns and initiatives as it relates to their responsible categories.
    • Business lead for Special Projects to enhance multi-channel customer experience and sales goals
    • Measures of performance are growth in organic visits, conversion rates and NPS scores.

    Category Planning and Strategy
    • Plan and build strategies for key category launches and initiatives.
    • Designs Digital customer experience and optimized path-to-purchase funnel, based on own insights and reports as well as leveraging 3rd party research material.
    • Understand current trends in products and technologies and build an experience that leads the North American market, driving an optimal experience to increase traffic, education and sales
    • Work in tandem with the Buying team and Retail Specialist/Analyst to plan and proof all aspects on the online space within your categories
    • Identify new capabilities that elevate the customer experience or improve the bottom line
    • Work with the Merchandising and Marketing teams to understand key product and technology launches and understand assortment and pricing strategies to build an online experience that connects the dots with the in-store execution for a seamless multi-channel experience
    • Work with the Marketing team to build Marketing plans to drive new and existing traffic to optimized landing pages/experiences

    Search Engine Optimization (SEO) & Organic Traffic
    • Develop content plan based on customer discovery path, develop strategy that delivers continually increasing visitation to managed department while growing online market share, visitation and revenue from Natural Search traffic
    • Provide recommendations within Content Discovery and Strategy upon reviewing analysis and performance of category pages.
    • Uncover backlink opportunities and build campaigns to grow visitation and pass authority from vendor referral sites
    • Communicate Content Development and Conversion Optimization plan to Media team to coordinate efforts
    • Monitor regular reports for market share, visitation and revenue performance from major search channels, uncover new opportunities and act on any red flags
    • Communication to team and management on project development, timelines and results
    • Work closely with the content and Web Interface Designers to execute plan.

    Competitive Surveillance, Insights & Reporting
    • Studies & analyzes in-depth the e-tail web market – taking into account site functionality, new industry development, product trends, consumer needs and historical performance
    • Identify global insights in regards to innovations, capabilities and services and present back action plans to the Canadian organization
    • Acquires superior knowledge in the above areas and applies it to work, in order to provide in a timely fashion the best value, technology & information to the customer
    • Initiates and helps develop business requirements on new IT initiatives as they pertain to his / her categories
    • Understands competitors’ business models and promotional strategies

    Analytics and Reporting:
    • Study and analyze key performance indicators of customers’ online behaviour
    • Leverages web analytics to make informed, fact-based decisions
    • Analyze data from online campaigns: user response, web site conversions, feature usage, attrition rates
    • Provide detailed monthly and quarterly results overviews to management
    • Participate and support in delivering results and presentations to business stakeholders and eCommerce leadership.

    Operations
    • Hire, train and manage fulfillment team with efficiency and accuracy as top priorities.
    • Manage copy writer and photographer to prepare assets for webstore.
    • Upload product and work with Merchandiser to organize webstore with goal of being aligned with in store merchandising directive per campaign.
    Manage 3rd party developers that assist on troubleshooting, online enhancements and new development opportunities.
    • Online inventory management.
    * Programming, scheduling + reporting on all online promotions. Work with marketing team to ensure communication through web banners.

    All requirements are based on 3-5 plus years of experience and include, but are not limited to the following:
    • eCommerce or product management in a retail environment
    • Conversion funnel optimization
    • Practical experience in Search Engine Optimization applied to digital retail
    • Experience working with Digital Analytics
    • Experience with Magento eCommerce platform
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus on Ecommerce, Digital Marketing and/or related field

This role reports into the Director of the Drake General Store, but they will also work in conjunction with Designer(s), Buyer(s) and Graphic Designer(s).

    Position Overview:

    The In-House Associate Product Developer’s primary responsibility is to facilitate the development of Drake General Store private label collection(s), in collaboration with the Sr. Design Manager, and Director of Merchandising. This role will be a major contributor in the start to finish creation, development and execution of proprietary branded apparel, soft and hard goods targeting the Drake General Store customer. He/She will be responsible for overseeing and owning his/her collections in their entirety.

    Responsibilities of the In- House Associate Product Developer:

    • Research and presentation of new seasonal product ideas following conceptual direction and design calendars presented by the Merchandise Director and Design Manager
    • Ensure product is on-brand and follows Drake General Store design criteria
    • Monitor and track design calendars ensuring design deliverables are met
    • Creation of design boards including colour palettes, trim packages, and technical sketches (CADS)
    • Manage and support graphic designer on creation of all assets relating to product responsibilities
    • Prepare and lead scheduled design presentations
    • Submission of final design packages, fit and construction details to Technical Designer
    • Play an active role in reviewing and finalizing all relevant tech packs for production
    • Prepare development packages in support of the Technical Designer, and participate in all communication and follow up related to each package in partnership with the Technical Designer.
    • Manage fittings and detail changes through sampling and production process, ensuring information is translated to vendor in simple and comprehensive terms.
    • Support Technical and Production teams in sample filing/marking
    • Communicate regularly Sr. Design Manager to ensure deliverables are met and schedules are on track
    • Maintain an active role in Design Flow meetings by preparing samples and design changes for team buy in
    • Daily communication with production team and vendors alike. Off-hours communication when necessary
    • Support Production Coordinator in presentation of program issues and delays to Sr. Design Manager, and aid in delivery of feasible solutions
    • Support production in execution of barcodes, allocations, and shipping marks
    • Support Marketing, Wholesale + Online departments with necessary product information
    • Co-own and manage WIP product dockets, cost and docket tracking (WIP: Work in Progress)
    • Support production in closing and consolidating WIP dockets for monthly inventory tracking
    • Communicate cash flow needs to Sr. Design Manager

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in fashion design or a related field required
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in product development + design

    Overview:

    Daily management of processes and tasks related to production/execution of DGS private label brands. The Production Coordinator will act as the liaison between all departments and vendors to execute, monitor and provide regular updates on all private label production and orders.

    Responsibilities:

    • Communication of tech packs, label packages and graphic templates to local and overseas vendors
    • Receive and prepare reports based on pricing and minimum order quantities, identifying estimate program costs for Sr. Design Manager and Buying team
    • Monitor and track development of sampling processes, production approvals, 3rd party trims/notions
    • Co-Create and manage sample/production Time and Action schedules in a multi-SKU, multi-vendor, high volume capacity
    • Ensure Time and Action calendar deliverables are met and held by on and off shore vendors alike
    • Coordinate with designers, graphics, buyers, and technical designers to ensure all production requirements, such as quality, colors, trims, graphic placement, fabrication, and fit are met and clearly communicated to vendors
    • Facilitate, track, and file sample and production approvals completed by design team
    • Implementation of trims and notion package guidelines with nominated suppliers
    • Create and submit approved PO’s from approved working buy. Update PO’s to reflect changes in production process
    • Forecast and present order deposits and balance payment needs to Sr. Design Manager with the goal of a 6 month planning window
    • Daily maintenance of cost + Work-In-Progress (WIP) docket tracking, and monthly inventory reconciliation
    • Communicate daily with on and off shore vendors to ensure sampling and orders are on track and production issues are resolved in a timely manner. Off-hour communication necessary within reason
    • Communicate production quarries, issues and delays to Sr. Design Manager, presenting feasible resolutions to these issues in a timely manner with support from In-House Product Developer
    • Management of off-shore 3rd party quality control/testing procedures
    • Create comprehensive shipping marks, allocations, and barcode artwork
    • Request multiple competitive shipping quotes for management approval
    • Shipping consolidation and weekly tracking
    • Daily communication of land dates + shipment tracking with freight forwarder and Shipping/Receiving department alike
    • Submission of shipping documents to Shipping/receiving in a timely and efficient manner
    • Management of in-house quality control and reporting on receipt of bulk merchandise
    • Update and maintain monthly reports on raw, finished goods, and WIP inventory
    • Track and archive all final and updated tech packs/trim packages/PO’s/shipping documents etc.

    Skills + Qualifications:

    • Minimum 5 years of experience in an apparel production department
    • Comprehensive understanding of Time and Action calendars
    • Ability to navigate strategically around production issues/resolution
    • Must be a high functioning, creative problem solver with excellent communication and attention to detail
    • Must have good understanding of garment construction as well as technical knowledge of production is a must
    • Must be pro-active and possess the ability to meet tight deadlines
    • Must have aptitude for a high paced environment with the ability to manage many moving parts
    • Must be organized logical thinker with aptitude for both administrative and creative duties
    • High proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft office a must!

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Warehouse Operations
    - Receiving, organizing, labeling, packaging products
    - Shipping and Receiving of goods – matching to purchase orders; scheduling couriers
    - Assisting drivers with larger items; ensuring there isn't a build-up of skids
    - Ordering warehouse supplies, restocks etc.
    - General maintenance support (space/stock, garbage/recycling)
    - Fulfilling wholesale orders

    Store-Support Tasks
    - Pricing individual units and dividing according to transfer slips
    - Inventory accuracy

    Desired Skills:
    - Hard working, industrious attitude
