  • STORE TEAM LEAD- Vaughan Mills

    The Drake General Store continues Drake’s mandate for providing a community based hotbed for culture, an energetic hub for visual and performance art, dining, hospitality and, now, treasure hunting. The Drake General Store is seeking motivated and experienced Full Time STORE TEAM LEAD (6 MONTH CONTRACT) to join our new Vaughn Mills team + grow with our company. If you are design savvy, up to date with current trends, comfortable with books, clothes, jewelry, curios and most importantly, people, we are looking for you.

    The objective of the VAUGHN MILLS, Team Lead role is maximizing in-store sales. They will achieve this through various activities including: the maintaining store operations, steps of service and the Drake brand, supporting store marketing and promotions, leading by example and providing exemplary customer service, and maintaining store + merchandising standards through the measurement of KPIs, to ultimately drive revenue, guest satisfaction.

    RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:

    Store Operations
    • Collaborate with the Area Manager to manage the stores physical and financial resources through KPIs measurement, communicating operation needs to Area Manager and/or the appropriate department, providing leadership and guidance to staff, and ensuring a superior service experience is delivered to all guests
    • Working with the Merchandising Coordinator to effectively merchandise and maintain store aesthetics (inventory management, receiving, floor merchandising, back stock organization)
    • Work with Sales Associates to ensure all responsibilities + duties are completed on the Daily

    Task Check List
    • Complete the “Daily Doc/ EOD” recapping ATD, conversation, UPT, sales, traffic, emails and goals and send to Area Manager
    • Work with Area Manager on staff performance reviews and action plans
    • Support payroll, labour budgets and expense
    • Support Area Manager completing weekly reporting including: supply orders, restock requests, and time clocks (detail+ summary)
    • Support monthly inventories and ensure accurate and timely inventory management controls
    • Complete Inventory Discrepancy Report Summary through investigation and audits with Area Manager
    • On call to support store or staff questions and/ or issue that may arise

    Sales Responsibilities
    • Work with Area Manager to produce sales strategies and objectives for the store
    • Execute DGS marketing initiatives and promotions, to increase overall store sales
    • Support sales + business objectives and proactively recommend improvements on a regular basis
    • Drive store business by growing ADT and email database, and exceeding daily targets

    Training Responsibilities
    • Support training and on-boarding of all New Hires from start to finish
    • Assist the Area Manager in growing + developing training programs and optional training seminars
    • Encourage and promote on-going in store and optional training programs

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
    • Minimum of 2-3 years in a retail or customer service environment
    • Demonstrated abilities with sales + customer relationship building
    • Must be able to work well and remain motivated within an independent, unsupervised environment
    • Experience in a supervisory or “key holder” function within a retail store
    • Open availability to work weekdays + weekend shifts, full time availability
    • Food handlers certificate is an asset

  • SALES ASSOCIATE - Vaughan Mills

    The Drake General Store continues Drake’s mandate for providing a community based hotbed for culture, an energetic hub for visual and performance art, dining, hospitality and, now, treasure hunting.

    The Drake General Store is seeking motivated and experienced part time SALES ASSOCIATES (6 MONTH CONTRACT) to join our teams + grow with our company at our newest location in Vaughn Mills. If you are design savvy, up to date with current trends, comfortable with books, clothes, jewelry, curios and most importantly, people, we are looking for you.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Accountable for meeting retail sales and business objectives
    • Execute operations such as daily tasks outlined, adhere to guidelines in Store Audit
    • Control and minimize shrink through awareness, proactive initiatives.
    • Personify and exhibit DGS core values
    • Utilize the guidelines set out in the DGS selling right guide.
    • Ensure the store is opened and closed accurately and efficiently

    MERCHANDISE RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Maintain merchandising standards.
    • Communicate customers feedback about merchandise to SM and TL
    • Ensure store looks fresh and clean for every customer experience
    • Continue to audit and spot check store inventory to ensure accuracy
    • Communicate merchandise sell through and inventory inaccuracies as well as transfer errors.

    ADMINISTRATION
    • Verify cash float, deposits and all monies tendered (ie balance receipts)
    • Maintain accurate clock in/out records
    • Ensure cash always has enough change to get through 3 business days
    • Communicate any supplies needed or fixtures that need repair.

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum of 2 years in a retail or customer service environment
    • Demonstrated abilities with sales + customer relationship building

    Drake General Store is a distinctive Toronto brand that has grown from a boutique gift shop at the Drake Hotel to a well-loved multi-location Toronto shopping and eCommerce destination. In addition to featuring the best locally & globally curated products we also develop our own private label brands that we wholesale and distribute to 100s of retailers.

    In recent years our business has grown from humble roots to a multi-layered retail business comprised of brick and mortar locations, store in store partnerships, private label production, warehouse sales and a growing online business. We require a strategic and dynamic leader to “oversee” these operations and lead this exciting phase of growth at the Drake General Store HQ (Eglington + Keele).
    You are someone with a proven track record of managing retail operations teams at a senior management level or higher. You have a keen understanding of financial information with a demonstrated ability to drive top and bottom line growth through analysis, decision and action. You are an energetic and strategic leader capable of inspiring teams to achieve great things.

    RESPONSIBILITIES
    Reporting to Drake General Store President, the Director of Operations will:

    • Manage, evaluate, develop and implement departmental budgets, operations tactics and strategies to maximize efficiency and adapt to changes in the marketplace to ensure market share growth
    • Develop and establish short and long term departmental goals, objectives policies and operating procedures
    • Create a culture of accountability by clearly defining, tracking and reporting monthly goals and outcomes with retail, wholesale and eCommerce departments
    • Analyze, monitor and report on operational activities through operational metrics and controls
    • Review all current processes and initiatives and work to optimize and ensure efficiencies in all aspects of the business- a continuous improvement mindset is critical
    • Identify, recommend and implement changes to outdated process is integral to the HQ Success and increase efficiency
    • Conduct process mapping, analysis, and redesign to drive operational improvements across the organization
    • Build, hire and maintain an engaging, effective and culturally rich retail and customer experience team
    • Collaborate with various departments including, Marketing & Category Management, Business Operations and Shared Services to develop and drive key initiatives and create strong cross-functional teams
    • Oversee workloads and provide staff supervision to Drake General HQ ensure that work is done accurately, efficiently that complies with policies, procedures, standards as well as best working practices.
    • Conduct needs analysis, as required, and work with operation team members to provide solutions to issues related to overall business performance
    • Develop and maintain successful retail systems, processes, training and day-to-day store operations & other channels
    • Determine and manage the total succession planning needs for the Business Units, including the identification of future talent and provision of necessary training and business exposure
    • Provide guidance, motivation, and performance review including hiring employees, to maintain and enhance competency levels, identify future training requirements and achieve goals to increase performance
    • Create successful, culturally rich customer service and retail teams for all locations and all channels
    • Develop + monitor key performance indicators and report to executive team
    • Actively demonstrate our mission, vision and values to all levels of the organization through approachable leadership and instill confidence in others to facilitate human performance

    REQUIREMENTS + SKILLS
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field or 8- 10 years’ of retail experience
    • 5+ years in a leadership role
    • Retail store or HQ management experience required
    • Holds self and others accountable driving team results through engagement and leadership
    • Embraces change, with proven ability to lead teams through change with flexibility and resiliency
    • Demonstrates customer service excellence.
    • Proven ability to build strong internal and external relationships. Able to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders across an organization
    • Outstanding communicator at all levels of the organization. Strong ability to build cross functional relationships
    • Positive, committed individual who does not avoid conflict or difficult issues that pose barriers to the success of the team
    • Able to formulate, prioritize and execute to achieve desired operational results
    • Professional attitude with strong interpersonal skills
    • Excellent written, electronic and verbal communication skills
    • Advanced proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, Outlook
