Edible Art History? Food Photography Like You've Never Seen by Karsten Wegener

Posted by Shannon Elizabeth Murphy, 11 months, 2 weeks ago

We know that you're not supposed to play with your food, but sometimes art history can't help but be turned into something... tasty. German photographer, Karsten Wegener, who usually shoots large-scale commercial projects, has spent time recreating famous artworks from food. I wonder what starting bids for bologna at Sotheby's would be?

Music Monday: R.I.P Marissa Cooper - Shannon Elizabeth Murphy

Posted by Shannon Elizabeth Murphy, 1 year ago

Shout out to all my ladies and dudes who spent grade 9 and beyond writing Mr. Marissa Cooper, Mrs. Seth Cohen or Mrs. Sandy Cohen in their notebooks. A call of praise to all hosts of weekly O.C. parties (thank your parents again for all those Dixie Cups of Fresca and bowls of Sun Chips). For those who made Chrismukkah lists and claimed that they were Death Cab for Cutie fans before S01 E01: this mixtape is for you. It's hard to believe that The O.C. is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, making myself and other Millennials feel "old." Enjoy this mixtape that I made honouring all the great tunes featured on the show's four season run.

Download "R.I.P Marissa Cooper" for a limited time only, here.
Tracklist is after the jump.

Racks & Bands - CanCon Mix (Drake Blog Premiere)

Posted by Shannon Elizabeth Murphy, 1 year ago

With so many amazing parties landing in our Underground, it's hard to pick a favourite. That being said, our hip-hop monthly, Racks & Bands, featuring the sounds of Johnny Hockin and Vanity Muscles is something that we always look forward to.

For Canada Day, in celebration of the tremendous amount of talent that has emerged from across the nation, Racks & Bands presents a special mix: CanCon. CanCon used to be a term designating the necessary number of Canadian tracks in a radio or television. But recently, CanCon has become embedded in popular culture across the world as our talent find its way onto major recordings.

These are some of the best jams out. They just happen to be Canadian.

Enjoy the exclusive premiere of their mix + be sure not to miss the next Racks & Bands party on July 12!

Arsenal is more than just a contemporary gallery, it also functions as a beautiful space for private, corporate + charitable events. Located in the Junction, Arsenal is a great addition to the neighbourhood that some consider responsible for saving Toronto's art scene. We sat down with the Associate Director, Rosie Prata, to talk about what Arsenal has planned for the year and who she'd enjoy a Drake burger with.

Posted by Shannon Elizabeth Murphy, 1 year, 5 months ago

One of our favourite photographers, Ryan McGinley, stayed with Drake last time he was in town for Christopher Owens' show. When he wasn't busy enjoying breakfast in our Café or dancing at the Beaver he snapped some behind-the-scenes photos from his visit. We also chatted with him briefly about Will Munro, Joni Mitchell and his upcoming projects!

By now we're sure you've heard about Stefan Sagmeister's inspiring Happy Show at The Design Exchange. This totally-yellow-and-interactive exhibit put a smile on our faces and presented us with some food for thought. Jenny from Shared and I were lucky enough to attend the opening and hear Sagmeister address the excited room. Enjoy some photos from our trip down this Austrian's Yellow Brick Road.
