Content Aware Typography

Posted by Bryan Da Silva, 4 years, 7 months ago

Adobe Photoshop has this (arguably useless) tool called "content aware fill." Sparing you the boring technical details, it allows you to delete part of an image and fill it in with what the program thinks should be there, based on the rest of the image. In demos it works flawlessly, and the resulting patch-up is pretty convincing. My experience with it has been different, with floating heads and broken buildings making a monstrosity of whatever I'm working on. It just won't do what I want it to.

Now somebody's put this glitchy process to good use. When fed famous typography, the program goes a little crazy and makes some pretty amazing abstract patterns. Some of them even look intentional. Check out the tumblr, Content Aware Typography, and see if you can identify the sources underneath the mess!
