David Bussell's Hidden Hotel Graffiti

Posted by Drake, 1 year, 11 months ago

Leaving something behind on a vacation can be a total nightmare. We've all said "farewell" to chargers, dresses, toiletries, passports and more (children?). Comedian, David Bussell, always leaves something behind, but it's nothing you can put in a bag; it's his project Hotel Graffiti. We've collected our favourite hidden graffiti messages from his latest hotel project, check them out after the jump.

Content Aware Typography

Posted by Bryan Da Silva, 1 year, 11 months ago

Adobe Photoshop has this (arguably useless) tool called "content aware fill." Sparing you the boring technical details, it allows you to delete part of an image and fill it in with what the program thinks should be there, based on the rest of the image. In demos it works flawlessly, and the resulting patch-up is pretty convincing. My experience with it has been different, with floating heads and broken buildings making a monstrosity of whatever I'm working on. It just won't do what I want it to.

Now somebody's put this glitchy process to good use. When fed famous typography, the program goes a little crazy and makes some pretty amazing abstract patterns. Some of them even look intentional. Check out the tumblr, Content Aware Typography, and see if you can identify the sources underneath the mess!

Drake One Fifty Opening Soon + There Goes The Neighbourhood

Posted by Mia Nielsen, 1 year, 11 months ago

Food follows art. Our site-specific installation by Jesse Harris may be down, but that only means we're one step closer to unveiling our newest Drake outpost! Find out more about our special commissioned work while you wet your appetite for Drake One Fifty. Most restaurants under construction would put a simple "Opening Soon" sign in the window, but here at the Drake, we were inspired to use the construction hoarding at 150 York Street as a canvas for Toronto artist, Jesse Harris.
