2018Predictions

2017 has come to close with so much excitement happening every year in music. It’s now time to set our sights on future sounds. We’ve compiled a list of our 2018 predictions of who we think are this year's hottest artists you'll want to keep your eyes and ears on.

Brent Faiyaz

When listening to “Sonder Son” you right away get a sense of nostalgic old-school R&B blending with modern hip-hop that Faiyaz spins his own way. With his recent feature on Goldlink’s ‘Crew’ that is nominated for a Grammy this year, he is becoming more and more on people’s radars and soon everyone will have heard of the mastery behind the Sonder Son. He is playing a sold out show in the Underground on Feb 1.

Our Prediction: You wish you knew him sooner.

Gus Dapperton

Gus Dapperton channels very whimsical and carefree sounds and lyrics that give the audience a fun listen. With groovy tunes he has a very 80s/90s vibe that evokes a cool dreamy-pop sound. He will be playing a sold-out show in the basement this January 14.

Our Prediction: You’ll be surprised by how much you love him.

NONAME

Fatimah Nyeema Warner aka NONAME is a rapper from Chicacgo, Illinois. She’s got an infectious rhythm in her rap style that blends perfectly with her harmonies. Her honest and forward lyrics make her a very influential artist to watch.

Our Prediction: She’s the artist you didn’t know you were waiting for.

Japanese Breakfast

Japanese Breakfast is the solo project of Michelle Zauner. She plays a type of experimental-pop/indie-rock with a bit of lo-fi and electro sounds. The raw musicianship and thought-provoking lyrics prove to be an interesting and enjoyable mix.

Our Prediction: You won’t see her coming.

Lido Pimienta

Lido is a Columbian Canadian musician based in Toronto. She plays Latin-American music inspired by afro-beat and contemporary synth-pop. Her songs speak of powerful themes that captivate many audiences along with a chilling performance every time. She is playing the Underground on Feb 15 + Feb 16.

Our Prediction: You won’t know what to expect – and you’ll love it.
