Drake Scribbles

We've been inviting local illustrators to join us for a meal or drinks and draw what inspires them at The Drake. Last week, Kristina Groeger took inspiration from the lunch menu and created this super cute GIF of Drake's Chicken + Waffles falling in love.

This week, after exploring all the spaces at The Drake Hotel, Megan Stulberg decided to sit in the colourful indoor/outdoor corridor on the Sky Yard. “It reminds me of Los Angeles, a city I visit often. Rooftop bars are scarce in Toronto. Having one in the heart of Queen West is like having a little slice of LA around the corner from me,” says Megan.

Working with a variety of artists, it's been fun to see what they choose to draw. Some observe the interaction of guests, others fill the space with imagined characters, and some prefer a quiet nook to study closely. “Taking the time to recreate a public space through an illustration allows me to appreciate the intentional details somebody chose to incorporate into the design,” says Megan. “I was drawn to this part of The Drake's Sky Yard because of the patterns in the pillows, wall decor and brickwork.”

Visit the Sky Yard this week and celebrate the onset of spring with some snacks + drinks from our menu. Our resident bartenders are waiting to shake you up something special.
