On The Road with Drake General Store

DGS In Paris

This month, members of the Drake General Store design team hit the road for a whirlwind buying and sourcing trip. Their travels took them to fashion capital of the world, continental Europe’s largest financial center, sin city and sunny Los Angeles.

First up, the très chic city of love, Paris. For the first time, the team attended Premiere Vision, one of the largest fashion trade shows in the world. Made up of 6 specialized sections (Yarns, Fabrics, Leather, Designs, Accessories, Manufacturing), our team’s focus was to comb the Fabrics trade show to find premium textiles to incorporate into our private label designs. It was a great way to gain invaluable insight into upcoming trends in textile design.

Le Bon Marche

The team also walked the Designs hall checking out new brands that could be introduced to our stores. After hours, they spend some time exploring the city and stopped into some of their favourite stores such as Colette and Le Bon Marche.

Group at Ambiente

From Paris, our team headed to Frankfurt to attend the Ambiente show. This trade show specializes in hard goods; our team walked the floor meeting vendors to assist in manufacturing of our home goods for our next House Partyhousewares collection, slated for launch in September 2015.

Vegas At Night 2

After 4 days in Frankfurt, it was back to North America and off to Las Vegas. In Vegas, our team attended another round of shows including Magic, Capsule and Liberty to meet with manufacturers and buy new apparel for Fall/Winter 2015. They also took some time to explore Vegas, including a stop at In ‘N Out for burgers.

Finishing the shows in Vegas, our team rented a car and drove to Los Angeles. Los Angeles is full of inspiration for our design and buying team. We visited some of our favourite shops in the city including Steven Alan and Opening Ceremony and spent 2 days buying for our private label brand Quarterly. Check out the new collection in stores at the end of March.
