Welcome to Drake By the Lake: First Month Update

Posted by Drake, September 28, 2014

Waking up early, eating breakfast and preparing yourself for a road trip East can seem like a daunting task—especially with the unavoidable bustle of Toronto traffic. But it’s a different story when your drive takes you to the vineyard lined roads of Wellington, Prince Edward County. This is a trek that many of us on The Drake properties team have taken numerous times. We have to say, it’s something we’ve grown to look forward to (and we hope you will too).

Over the past two years we have been feverishly working to open the Drake Devonshire, our inn located in Prince Edward County + we can’t believe it’s already been a month since we opened our doors! Time flies when you’re having fun—and we’ve definitely had our share of it over the month of September.

One of our favourite nights this month was our community housewarming, where we had the pleasure of meeting about five hundred of you from the County and show you around the inn for the first time. A epic pig roast, followed by a camp-style corn roast by our lakefront fire pit were just a couple of the night's highlights. We also hosted our first sleepover in September and without a doubt, there were smiles all around—we’re glad you feel at home with us. One of the best parts of this whole experience is the people we’ve met along the way and the warm welcome we’ve received from the Wellington and PEC community.

In true Drake fashion, Executive Chefs Ted Corrado + Matt DeMille have thought up a menu that will provide a truly unique dining experience. We’re more than proud to say we use local produce in our kitchen, and have farm and lake-to-table dishes whenever possible. We also have a long list of County wine for you to sip on. We’re open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner and we always have delicious, daily plat du jours (that often sell out, so if you have a favourite day/night - come early!). If you made us choose which menu we like best, we couldn’t. We’d love to have you over for a meal (or two or three), and can't wait to see you.

We have some events planned for the upcoming months, and we think they’re going to turn out great. Once a month Ivy Knight will bring 86’d to the County so prepare for some fierce food related competitions + events.

We also have Memphis Tuesdays, and this is where you come in: we know there’s a lot of talent in and around the County, and we want you show us what you’ve got at Drake Devonshire’s open mic night. We also have a back porch with a dreamy view, if you want to kick back, relax and watch the waves roll in. Oh, and did we mention the ping pong table in our Glass Box—anyone up for a match?

On our drive back to the city after a day and night (or two) as the green of the vineyards is illuminated yellow from the sun, we can't help but feel some separation anxiety from our home away from home, until the next visit to beautiful PEC.
