Not keen on TIFF’s red carpet or rush ticket lines? Look then under the city streets, (or in our very own Room 222!) for the Toronto Urban Film Festival.

From September 5-15, North America’s largest commuter film festival will present on the TTC subway platform screens over 85 silent films from around the world. Drake guests, however, won’t need to go underground — from 11AM-5PM, September 10-13, they’ll have the opportunity to see the full programme in Room 22 for free.

Besides the usual Viewer’s Choice competition slate, this year’s line-up will spotlight the works of three filmmakers: Wrik Mead (Toronto, ON), Maarit Suomi‐Väänänen (Helsinki, Finland), and David Gabriël Djindjikhachvili (Amsterdam, Holland).

TUFF will also be presenting a specially commissioned project by local artist duo Public Studio — who were part of our summer show — that will play on TTC screens as well as above ground on a giant billboard one block north of Dundas Square.
