Knob Creek Cocktail The Drake Hotel

The Knob Creek Cocktail (aka Mr. Bojangles) was created by our resident bartender, Tabytha Towe, in 2012 for our summer menu. Made from Knob Creek bourbon, Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur, house-made cinnamon syrup, vanilla bitters and lemon and pear juice, this cocktail is perfectly suited to those looking to experience bourbon for the first time or for the bourbon cocktail aficionado.

Glassware: Collins

Build over ice

1.5 oz Knob Creek bourbon

1 oz Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur

.25 oz Cinnamon Syrup

.5 oz Lemon Juice

Top with Pear Nectar

3 drops of vanilla bitters

Mix the cocktail with a bar spoon

Garnish: Candied ginger

To make your own cinnamon syrup:

Place 1 cup of water into a pot and bring to just below boiling. Add in 2 cups of sugar, stirring it in, allowing the sugar to fully dissolve, add 6 cinnamon sticks. Let cool for 30 minutes, remove the cinnamon sticks and pour into a container.

To make your own vanilla bitters:

  • Place 12 oz of high proof bourbon (we used Bookers Bourbon) into a Mason Jar

  • Remove the seeds from 4 vanilla beans and place the vanilla bean into the Mason jar

  • Add ¼ tea spoon of Cassia Bark* into the Mason Jar

  • Add ¼ tea spoon of Wormwood* into the Mason Jar

Let this mixture sit for 1 week, stain through cheesecloth or a coffee filter into an eyedropper bottle.

*Cassia Bark and Wormwood can be found at most herbalist stores
