When you come to join the Drake house party on Saturday nights, chances are you've seen our charming head of security, Aaron Grant! With his professional stance, quick wit and overall fantastic-ness, we're so proud that Aaron has become a staple in our Drake staff family. We sit down with him to ask him a quick 5.
Drake: How long have you worked at The Drake?
Aaron Grant: Going on six years now.
D: Why do you like working here?
AG: Love Jeff Stober! It's so rare to find an employer who's so involved with all employees. I grew up in Toronto's east end and have worked at a number of clubs in the city, but nowhere that has Drake's great and dynamic people.
D: Tell me a bit about What you're studying.
AG: I'm working to earn my diploma in Career and Work Counseling. The program focuses on employment advising, coaching, job development, and outreach.
D: What makes you passionate about your courses and the idea of career counseling?
AG: I've always enjoyed helping people- especially giving people advice in transitional times in their lives as well as providing them with some guidance and tools so that they can lead better lives.
D: Who do you work with?
AG: From youth at risk to CEOs- a really wide range.
D: Why do you work for Drake security too?
AG: It keeps me current, I really enjoy the social aspect of it. Plus, I put a lot of time into the Drake and I just love being part of this team. I would have retired a long time ago if it wasn't for the Drake! When the night ends, there aren't that many people who have the same passion I have- I always have to stay sharp during the wee hours of the morning making sure that I'm protecting the brand and the investments, also making sure that everyone has a great and safe time.
D: Who would be your ideal Drake dinner date?
AG: Walter Payton
D: Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
AG: With all the things that go on at Drake, I'm so devoted to them all. I see myself career counseling part time, and still taking part in whatever Drake growth and expansion I can be a part of. In the future, I know that I will be very happy knowing that I've gone to school for something that I'm passionate about but knowing that I'm invested in Drake as well.
D: You're so busy! How many hours of sleep do you get at night?
AG: Haha, I am. About four or five hours of sleep a night.
Still haven't met Aaron? Come by this weekend and say hello!
